Does it only happen on this site? You might have already checked this, but start with your Internet explorer pop up settings.

This is something that should be able to be turned on /off by the site admins.
These guys (Samsung) are promoting hard right now so it's also possible the ad served through a regular position, but most likely pop ups / advanced rich media has been allowed since they bring in more money. Hopefully a frequency cap has been put in place so you only get one per site visit. ;)

Strange. It was over google chrome on my work computer. It was twice in about 5 minutes. I'll have to see if it does it again tomorrow.

I don't have pop up enabled as far as I know.   If I somehow do, I'd like to figure out how/why, and kill those off ASAP.  If you have any more details as to when they pop up, let me know and I'll investigate.

Thanks Allen. It hasn't happen today, so maybe it was being drive by another window I had open? I'll let you know if it comes back.

Actually I sometimes see weird things with Chrome and the sites.  Some residual Youtube stuff comes up, like if I was watching a youtube video or a youtube video was embedded in another browser tab.  It appears like your popup is a youtube video.  Maybe you are seeing the same thing.

They could be serving it from the top 728x90 position. Note that there isn't an ad there in Noah's screenshot. They could be doing it on accident as well if the network that filters in the ad doesn't have accurate filters.

I think I got one pop-up on here last week, but I don't remember who it was and it was only one time. Allen, you should be able to find Comcast and their offerings in your ad interface / reporting. Take a look to see if pop-up or rich media or video, or some odd creative size shows up under their account. If you find it, you should be able to block them completely or just that ad size / spec.

There should also be an interface for each ad position / call that you setup that allows you to dictate the type of ads you're willing to accept. (Size, action, etc)

Hope this helps.

I use Google Adsense to serve up ads.  Google Adsense specifically does NOT allow pop ups from its advertiser networks.

Yes, but it could have been classified as something different than a pop-up such as overlay, interstitial, rich media, etc. A "pop-up" will usually open a new window.
This particular ad is also a video and I know that AdX (Google / YouTube) accepts video ads from Supply Partners. Perhaps it was labeled as a video ad and made it through???

Google's verbiage is:
Sites may not change user preferences, redirect users to unwanted websites, initiate downloads, include malware or contain pop-ups or pop-unders that interfere with site navigation.
*But that is the publishers terms (site owner)*

For Video I did find:
To display an overlay ad, the content clip must be 30 seconds in length or longer.

Found here:
https://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1706015&topic=1271509&ctx=topic

This may still be OK under those descriptions.

It doesn't sound like it's happening too often, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Out of curiosity, I'd still try to see what served under the Samsung string of ads.

Not sure Google Ads has the reporting to show more info about the ad.

Also, this one would "interfere with site navigation".  It's right over the menu!

Agreed, but the "interfere with site navigation", is something that the Publisher cannot mess with. As far as I can tell, I don't see the same stipulation for Supply Partners.

I found this link to block overlays:
http://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2631193&topic=2414281&ctx=topic

The problem is that blocking is generally done at the URL level. So even a new (or the same) Samsung ad with a new click-through could potentially get through. It's a real PITA, but is standard practice.

I noticed one of these ad pop outs the other day.  It's not exactly a true pop up since it doesn't make a new window, but it popped out of its ad frame into the main screen.  Seems like a lot of flash enabled ads do something similar these days.  I didn't pay too much attention at the time, but I think it may have been triggered by mousing over the ad at the left.

I just hit one!

Yes, it was triggered by rolling over.  I'll see what I can do about these annoying ads.  Sorry about that.
