Coming into the discussion late but wanted to let you know a small drift boat is already available.  Have used this on the John Day.

The wide SOT pram idea is sounding really fun.  This would be an addition to my fleet for sure.

Yeah there's been a few mini drifters out there for a while. This 12 footer's a slick little bugger.

But I think most are talking about a hybrid drift boat/SOT kayak.

Dry Creek Industries.  Was told they will have it at the Portland Boat Show next month.

Do you have any specs?  Or a link to a website?

No website but the boat is 10'6" in length.  Don't know the exact width but would guess about 48"s.
The one I used was great for a one person float with gear or could be used for two people.  I only went through class 2 but
know it was been through 3's and 4's.  That said, going through rapids always depends on the skill of the rower.

now you are talking!  Lose all but a couple inches of freeboard, and the casting post.  Add plenty of scuppers and a "storage hatch" in the
sealed SOT style hull (down the center line). Move the seat forward a touch and integrate it into the hull, footwells etc. Add Some tackle trays down the sides, with a tank well in the back, and a strong place to add an anchor bracket on the stern.  Couple well placed "flat spots" for mounting rod holders for pulling plugs etc. on both sides of the boat in front of the sticks.  Would be fun to play with designing and testing something like this out. http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=4062.0;attach=4660;image
