Video report from Merwin. Fish are getting aggressive. They're deeper now, 40-60 feet, but it seems like the bigger ones are biting better.

Nice video.  It really became calm when you caught the last one.

Speelyai is a great spot.  Can you still park for free on weekdays?

Good suggestion on the Shasta releases.  I've been meaning to buy some.  I'm tired of manually "popping" my Scottys on Kokes.

I may have to give the Shasta's a try to.  None of the kokes I caught last weekend were able to pop mt Scotty no matter what I tried.
Nice pink rod by the way.

Brian, it's 3 bucks to park on the weekends.

Nate, definitely try the Shasta releases. You get 2 for the price of one Scotty and they work way better.
The rod is actually red. But in man enough to fish a pink rod. ;)

Nice vid,RR! Those guys do everything they can to avoid the net ,don't they? Thanks for the info on the Shasta clips. Did ya have any problem with the clips releasing for no reason?Did you order them or find them local? Thanks and congrats on getting Merwin dialed in.Gonna try to make it this weekend sometime.

Hey dberd!
It took a few tries to find the sweet spot between being too tight and too loose, but once I found it, the release popped exactly when it should have and stayed out when it should have. The fact the Shasta releases can be adjusted makes all the difference.
I bought them from the website link I posted above. Since I was paying for shipping anyway I ordered some new sling blades and a few wiggle hootchies. I have not seen the Shasta releases in stores anywhere around here which is why I bought them online.

Initially I was going to go to the coast tomorrow but my wife nixed that idea real quick.
I did however get permission to fish the morning bite somewhere local. Merwin it is then. :)

Apparently, the fish gods turned the switch off.RR and I had a slow day on Merwin saturday(unless ya filled your limit on the troll in).Being a sucker for punishment ,I had a repeat  perfomance on Sunday..3 small ones only(plus 3 squaws).Lots of algae in water now...it would build up on line and trip DR clip!Nice to meet/fish with ya Paul...hopefully next time the bite will be back on!Also nice to meet and talk with you Antoine!(yakidiyak).

Nice to meet you too Dean. I didn't find my limit going in, but I did hook into a monster Kokanee about 100 yards from the white buoys. The exact size was hard to estimate, but I went airborne a few times and it looked huge. 17 inch range. I fought it about 2 minutes, it peeled line on 3 separate runs. I lost it 20 yards from the boat when my thumb hit the star drag on accident and it let a ton of line out. Spit the hook :((
The bite was on and off most of the morning, but short of the two14.5 inchers I got right of the bat, most is the other fish were tiny (8-9 inches).
The algae didn't help to your point.

Nate,
I was going to buy some Shastas then I realize the Shasta tackle Shuttle Hawk came with one or two.  I think you bought one of these at the Sportsmen's show last year, too.

Unfortunately the Shuttle Hawk I bought lasted about 5 minutes.  Last spring while trying it out at Green Peter, I sent it down and then popped it to see how it worked and that was the end of it.  I should have put a leash connecting it to my down rigger line.  I think the braid I use is to thin for it.

I am actually going try the Walker adjustable release that has been hanging around with all my down rigger gear.
