I headed south to Simpson Reef, fish the north side of the outer reef with 3 other PB. After about an hour the PB left with little or no success. Water was a little cold 49* so headed closer to shore to find warmer water. Ended up off some kelp beds, found some fish suspended  between 9ft-11ft in 24ft of water. The first few casts with the fly got nothing and then went to a unweighted fly and not letting  it sink so deep and then it was petty much fish on each cast. Ended up catching about 30 blacks in the 18"-19" range about 4lb-5lb (piggies if I do say so my self) and 4 lings from 24"- 28". Kept to of the blacks do to them beening greedy and swallowing the fly completely. Hopefuly I can get back out there Fri.

I did get 2 barely legal lings and a 18" black and 9 keeper crabs. both of the lings bit on my shrimp fly. I had a lot of tail biters all day too. I could have stayed out there the rest of the day it was so nice. I'm definitely glad I wore an extra layer of fleece underneath 'cuz I was perfectly warm. I just wanna go again now...

Yum! Went good with the crab too. I was tired and too lazy to make fettuccine from scratch like I wanted tho.

Sounds like a fun time! Chris thanks for the vid and that's a pretty nice flounder, no? I've never caught one, looking forward to the first time I see that on the other end of my line.

That's the biggest one I've ever caught but I know that they can get bigger. The one in my picture isn't worth many points...but I wanted to see how it tasted. It fileted really nice but was similar to greenling. So I don't think I would try to fill my tank well with them.
Thanks for checking out the video! I'm having fun trying to figure out the editing. I'll get it down eventually.

Man, I LOVE greenling. Perhaps they vary by location/diet but the ones I've caught around PC (both shore and kayak) are tasty! Reminds me of a cross between crab and mild fish. I don't love picking through the bones, though. :)

Yeah I don't mind it. It's just a little mushy for me. I like a hearty fish. I guess it all depends on how you cook it up.

Wish I'd been there, but had to work. Doesn't look like I'll be going anywhere now.

I like to prepare both greenling & perch as ceviche. Bet it would also be good done like pickled herring. I'll have to try that sometime.

Now were talkin! My mouth is watering now... Thanks for that! Need a recipe! Off to go fish the web for one.

Thought for sure I'd see you out there Paul. Still want you to show me your secret clamming spot someday too.

I'm trying to get all my preseason tasks done at work so I can take the time for GS-8. I would've been there this weekend, except for the snow. We'll eventually hit the clam beds, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I had a great day out at Sunset Bay.  The weather couldn't have been better for this time of year.  I got there a little late as did CBY we both launched about the same time while everybody else had headed north or south.  Roy wanted to fish just outside the bay for a little bit so I watched as he caught some perch, greenlings and a rockfish while all I could muster up was a underling and a real small black.  We both headed to the outside and North.  The bite was still slow.  I managed to pick up a greenling and then went to an area that I usually can't fish because of waves.  I then hooked into a few lings.  I did manage to pick up a few real small blacks.  Here are a few pics from the day.
