SWEET! A pleasure meeting ya Ripndrag!!!  You have some HEAVY duty Machining skills!  We are going to have to talk.  Luther at Yakattack better watch out.  lol.  I kid, since I don't have the time and dedication to do something like that!!! But I would love to talk a few bits and pieces with ya!!!!!

So for me, WG was a humbling experience.  Probably the first time in a LONG time I didn't have a legitimate strike and I was using TWO rods since I was fishing with my son.

He did great!  I can't believe after 5 or 6 hours and no fish, his first words after landing was "Where are we fishing tomorrow!"  That's my BOY!!!

We didn't go fishless though.  We caught a small greenling that hit my trailing red hook.  Caught an unidentified species also on the back red hook since it was less than half the size of my herring.  Saw huge bait swarms, was getting my sabiki rig ready as my line lay dangling below me and I caught it.  The best catch of the day was my son who snagged some kelp and along with it came this crab.  Still alive in the refrigerator as his pet.  We will see how long that lasts.  Minor species, no regs, so we are good there...I hope.  So basically I could have fished with NO bait and did just as well!! lol.

But that boy is ready!  I can't wait to get him hooked up to some more fish!!!!!  Despite being blanked on the salt we hammered rainbows the day before (Posted report).  I feel pretty dang good when he wants to use a spiderman rod since I used a Barbie rod.  Also after having a rainbow leap into the kayak, he immediately starts comparing it to the video where a coho jumped into my kayak.  Wow!  really.  makes a dad feel pretty good!!!!!

So I took a few pics. I wish I had taken more and at better angles.

That's the way fishing should be.......great pics and such a beautiful sunset....WOW :o
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Nice work on those butts! It was hard to leave on Saturday knowing how good the conditions were, but I had my 4 fish. Had a great time meeting new folks and hanging out. This crew of people are awesome and I can't wait for another adventure. I was thinking about a couple things ... Has anyone tried treble hooks on their bait for butts? Illegal? Seems like you could bury the hook into a chunk of bait to prevent snagging. I'm still having some issues with missing fish... Although not nearly as many as last time. Does anyone have a good method for freezing/making blocks of ice? I'm tired of paying for ice and I figure making a couple big blocks would last for the weekend. What was the biggest butt this weekend? Mine was prob 25 # but I saw a 30 caught and the pics from rd rash and Chris seem like nice ones! Any salmon?

Great seeing all of you.  Nice catch all around...especially one yaker with a monster butt landed this morning 60-80lb??  I forget his name but hope he posts some pics.  Nick, for saving money on ice, here is what I do:  gather bunch of Gatorade used bottles (or average water bottle that's heavy duty) and some gallon milk jugs...mixed water with kosher (sea) salt (1/2 cup per gallon)...don't top off...leave 20% empty so water can expand.  Salt lowers the freezing temperature and it stays frozen for long time.  I use Gatorade ice packs for fish cavity once they are gutted.  For even thermal coverage, pour some water in the cooler...it will draw coldness from the ice packs. I usually put fish in garbage bag so it's easy to clean.

Some great pics and great results!  Love to see that!  The big halibut was a gentleman named Mark Conner (sp?) I saw the Facebook post.  54.5 inches which puts it right 80 pounds.  The pic almost looks like a sit inside which would add a few bonus points in my book.

To think it only gets better from here for those big butts!!  Yah baby!!!  great job everyone!!!
