Any way to drill the bolt shafts and put a small padlock on it thinking like a jeep spare tire rack was on the back.

OJ drove a Bronco.

But if a red Ferraris pulled up alongside me, I'd hope it was Christie Brinkley behind the wheel !

I need a sandwich.

It is all coming together nicely. I still have to figure out tiedowns, thinking a full loop around the kayak body to the load stops on the rack at both front and back, plus a simple line from the bed rail points over the top, again at front and back, should do it, no need for bow and stern.

Since I also have tiedown points in the middle of the bed (above the wheels) I'm also planning on running through the handles to be sure she stays down and no forward/aft movement.

Just in case you didn't know, Hobie recommends upside down on crossbars.

They can recommend that, but it would be too many opportunities to break stuff I have mounted to the gunwales, which would also be bad for the boat.

I definitely see the appeal.  I transport mine upside down, but I slide it on from the side of the truck.  The sliding is across the length of the bar, not the length of the gunwale.  If I loaded my kayaks from the back of the truck, I'd probably do it with a cradle up front and rollers in the back, with the boat right side up.

I am probably too old, and certainly too fat, to be able to fling this kayak up by its side.

I think it will be OK so long as it isn't there for extended periods. Overnight before heading out, and in transit, I think I'll get away with it.

And that was the biggest reason I ended up getting a pickup...  I can lift a boat waist high easily enough, but car topping was getting a little, ok a lot, more challenging...
