Saturday was a fun day fishing. Conditions were not optimal, wind wasn't too bad and the swells were manageable.  I shot out through the tunnel at 6:30am and headed a bit north, thinking the conditions would get worse, not better.  However, once I got beyond the washing machine and out near the first buoy, things calmed down.

Wanting to target rockfish first, since the freezer is a bit low on rockfish, I tied on my favorite 4 and 5" swim baits, and a 3 oz weight.  I found some great structure that looked fishy a few hundred yards north of the bouy, along two crab pots.  I think the blacks liked the scent from the pots, because they were in thick.  I was catching two at a time, and they were all keeper size.  In about 20 mins, I had 6 keeper blacks, and also a 29" Ling that hit a 4 inch swim bait, along with a big black rock.  I had my light jigging rod in the water and it felt like I was fighting a huge fish.

After I was done with blacks and one ling, I wanted to target lings and cabbies. I switched over to my slightly heavier jigging rod, rigged up with a trolling sinker and double hook setup that Clayman showed me.  I had picked up a package of frozen baby octopus from the local Asian grocery store, and man where those hot baits.  I lost track of how many fish hammered those octopus, but I ended up bonking another 30 inch ling and a 24 inch cabby, all before 8am.

I think that was a first trifecta for me.

As for worms, out of all of the fish I cleaned, I only found 2 worms.  However, last week, I did catch one that was really wormy and I ended up chucking it, as the meat didn't look good.

Here's a pic from the dock.

I enjoyed fishing with all of the guys that were out there, about a dozen kayakers out there.
