Wanted to see if anyone had interest in maybe doing a 3 day 2 night trip someplace in wa.

Day one
Paddle and fish to someplace semi remote, set up camp, enjoy some food and some adult beverages

Day 2
Fish all day, lunch on the water, return for dinner

Day 3 paddle back and go home.

Figure it could be a cool trip open to ideas for location

Maybe June or July

Well I've been planning something like this for 3 seasons now and have yet to make it happen, want to start at say Hobuck and paddle to somewhere in the Strait during Salmon season.  Bottom fish the first day, Salmon too and then it would be mostly Salmon fishing.  The deal is very weather dependant but I'm pretty determined to make it a go this hear.

Hey Oly, I'm pretty committed to the Hobuck strait deal this year and have done a paddle in the San Juans, very nice.  Maybe next year for me again.  I need to look at the fishing regs but what I'd like to do is get in on the early season King opener in area 4 and bottomfish too, that would make it mid june, if the weather ends up to bad to do a long paddle I will just fish the windows and sheltered area's on the dates planned.  I willing to put it on the calendar.

Mid June is doable for me.  SWMBO will be in Okinawa visiting friends, so I have the time...Just need to get dates on the calendar at work.

The past few years there has been a trip to the San Juans.  You'll need to be prepared to make a 2 mile channel crossing in potentially crappy weather, and it can be dangerous.  You gotta time it right.  If you don't, you'll can end up pedaling at a 5+mph pace and moving only 1.5 mph.  DAMHIK.

OR, you can pay to take the water taxi.

There are also lots of trips made out to Neah Bay / Hobuck every year by many of us.  Most times people post up when they go and invite folks along.  On occasion people don't post, because they want to spend time with close friends - just how it is.

I have day dreamed of doing the same thing since getting into kayak fishing.   I have "Gooogle Mapped" many areas looking for islands that would accommodate the camping part.
Thought that if enough kayakers were involved,  I would arrange to have the boat there as sort of a "Sag Wagon" to shadow along and be there if needed.   It would have a couple very large ice chests to hopefully store a great deal of fish that would be caught.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Well, to tell the truth I'm more interested in fishing than covering mileage but we'd have to cover some, haven't charted it out but I'm guessing min of 7 or 8 first day max twice that, same second and 3rd, I would have the wife on call to meet us 1 of several spots to pick up vehicles.

I don't think the regs are out yet but that last weekend in June is usually open for Wild King Salmon retention and that is what I'm wanting to get in on.  If that is how the Salmon season plays out we should hit it Sat 6-29 through Mon 7-1.  Area 5 will open Monday.
I'm going to put this on my schedule and plan to fish even if the weather blows us out for a paddle trip.  I'm open to whoever but some of the camp sites may be a bit tight with more than a few people, doubt if that will be the case though.  It's on my calendar.

Hey Shoeman, didn't mean to take over your post here.  Anyhow this trip is on my calendar and I might do it solo if I don't get any company.

The dates may have to change and the plan will likely change but the fishing will be good and the Scenery great.

Here are what I believe to be the requirements for a trip like this.  1-High comfort level in Big Water and willingness to deal with some unexpected/unplanned for challenges.  2-Paddling/Pedalling fitness, (you've got some time), mainly endurance.  3- An Intermediate plus a little level of Kayaking abililty, (probably no newbies unless your superman or a viking).  4-A Seaworthy Boat.

What to expect, 1-Afternoon Wind, 2-Big Currents (afternoon incoming push, time to paddle) 3-Great Fishing,  4-Great Scenery  5-Cool wildlife, (I've seen orcas, Grays, huge sea lions, harbor porpoises, river otters etc, etc).  In my opinion this is one of the worlds coolest coast.  6-Plans to change, (just plan on it! You have to improvise out there, to many variables).  7-8 to 15 miles of paddling a day, could be worse.

We will figure out a way to either keep fish cold or store them along the way or get them picked up.

I will chart this out soon and give better figures if I find serious interest.

Send me a PM if you consider yourself in.  Dates are Fri-Mon 6-29 to 7-1  Neah Bay to Pillar Point or Further.

This trip is exactly what I would love to do! Unfortunatly I don't think I have the experience in my kayak nor the paddling fitness to be comfortable and not be a snail being dragged along. Now that the weather is getting nicer I plan on getting out more, I will be out on the lake tomorrow trout hunting.
I am pretty cherry as far as kayaking and I have a sit in yak that probably isn't going to be very friendly on the strait.
