He makes the plastics as well.  I'm not sure I know what you mean when you ask "what are the plastics?"  He adds color, etc to the plastics and then pours them into molds he has made.

Was trying to ask "what brand".  But you answered that when you said he makes them.  He likes them with no "action tail"?  What are the thoughts on that?  I know this style of lure works, but I always find myself reaching for swimbaits or curly tails.

Allen, my answer is try a couple, the "no action" action is irresistible to Ling cod, it wiggles fast and looks more like a little candlefish or herring than the other plastic baits I've tried, I'm pretty confindent this style produces more Ling than any other, (they are especially effective when cast and retrieved as opposed to just jigged, and that is more fun cause you always feel the hit); having tried them on different days and in different conditions and different Seasons.  Bottom Line, I'm sold.  And the Revs friend catches lots of fish, no doubt.

I usually go for the action tail also, but looking forward to trying these!  :)

In truth I can't comment on the "this v that" cause this is all I have fished with.  I just know they consistently produce fish... whether I am jigging up and down, casting and retrieving or even trolling.  Seems like I catch fish when others aren't... but that may just be in my head.  It is true that the friend that makes these catches more fish than seems humanly possible... he is one of those guys with the "touch".  I have fished with flutter jigs and did not have better results then I have with these.  He made these to imitate candle fish and the tails are pretty "wiggley".  The plastic is really tough but very supple.  If I meet up with you I give you a few of mine to try out.  If not sooner, then later.  I will bring a bunch with me to ORC... I am planning on coming to that this year. WooHoo!!!

Oh I know this style works.  What do you think I do with swimbaits when the tail gets bit off?  Yup, I keep fishing them.

Rev.. would you mind posting a closeup pic of one these.  I'm always open to new options but it will take some serious convincing to get me to give up my "killer" twin tails

Yeah, I hear you, those twin tails are great and it' could just be the day or bait here in the strait, but I've fished one against the other and the hits on those jigs pictured compared to my favorite twinny weren't even close.  If i have these in the box they're what I go to now, course baitfish tend to be thick when I'm fishing them.

A number of guys on NCKA have been using similar slug type baits from Hogy and doing all right.
