I just need to figure how to convince my wife on why I need a new Outback after 4 months.  Any ideas?

Just tell her you're a man and it's your prerogative to spend your hard earned money however you see fit. That's what I would say. I don't ask for permission to do things, though.

Temporarily, perhaps... But then, we'd know why, eh?

While that previous comment was a bit snarky, the truth is, when you're not married it is your own hard earned money to spend as you please.  But once you are married it's no longer "my money" and "your money".  It becomes "our money" and decisions like spending a couple grand on a new kayak (or sewing machine, or vacation to HI, whatever) should never be done unilaterally.

You can't generalize this because that is the way you do it.  I know several married couple that have there own jobs and bank accounts.  They buy whatever they want out of their own money.

I never want to be married then. If every purchase has to go before the 'committee' for approval...count me out. Say what you want...I just think it's sad when I read post after post from guys on here hoping they can sneak a new rod in the arsenal undetected by the Mrs. Or justify that second or third boat or even getting away for a few hours to go fishing.
I'm not saying be totally careless with your funds but for shits sake! You work damn hard for your money! What's the point in making money if you can't have fun with it? I'm willing to bet your wife has a closet full of shoes and clothes that don't get half as much use as your fishing gear.
I don't want to get too out of control on this subject so I'll stop there. I realize I'm probably opening the flood gates to a bunch of hate being thrown my way. I just couldn't keep it to myself any longer.

I understand every situation is unique. I don't have thirty kids crawling around the house and a stay at home wife at home wrangling them all day.
I'm with Justin on this one.

It's a matter of respect.  My wife doesn't go out and spend a grand or two on anything without talking to me about it first, and I do the same.  It's not an issue of control but one of mutual respect and teamwork.

Plus, when kids enter the picture (I have 4) priorities necessarilly change.  They come first, fun stuff/toys come much later.

This is the reason that I plan on getting snipped this fall.

You can always try to get her involved in kayaking. I'm not married but my girlfriend is now purchasing us a second kayak so she can go out lake fishing and stuff with me. I dont think I will get her too far out on the salt though. She also likes to go the the tournys and stuff too.

I can appreciate that.  However, it was as much my desire as my wife's to have the third, and probably more my desire to have the 4th than hers.  So I am totally OK with the sacrifices in terms of toys and fishing time on account of the kids.  Besides, SWMBO wants me to get a tandem yak so I can start taking the 2 older kids out.  Once they're not little babies/toddlers anymore it gets better in terms of ability to get out fishing.

Guys like sumpz have an obligation to have mutiple children, bringing them into a what I assume is a stable household. Some people and I include myself in this category, once they figure out how the old viginia works realize at this point in our lives we are to selfish to reproduce again.

So I personally thank you Sumpz for helping me to feel ok for being selfish.
