Guys like sumpz have an obligation to have mutiple children, bringing them into a what I assume is a stable household. Some people and I include myself in this category, once they figure out how the old viginia works realize at this point in our lives we are to selfish to reproduce again.

So I personally thank you Sumpz for helping me to feel ok for being selfish.
I might be a little selfish. I'm making my self sound like a douchebag with my views on the subject and I'm alright with that. I have respect for my girlfriend...we choose to keep money separate though.

Lots of good comments on the threadjack here.

I think of running my house with my wife (we have 2 kids) as a small business where we're both half owners working towards common goals. As in business, mutual respect is paramount, as are flexibility and reason. It's not always easy but it's always worth working out an agreeable solution.

Not referring to anyone here specifically, but with my acquaintances IRL it seems that a lot of guys play the "have to ask the wife" card just because they don't want to actually manage their own s4!+ or actually work together with their spouse. Don't get me wrong, every situation is different. I have relatives where it's very old fashioned and the guy decides most everything, and they are perfectly happy. I also have friends where the wife controls most of the finances and makes most of the big decisions, and they're also happy. And in both cases I've seen the opposite.

I don't have any problem with people who get married and maintain separate finances, either. It's not for me, but I've got no problem with it. Whatever works for you and let's you each be fulfilled, right?

Did I have a point? I guess not. Maybe it's something like this: agreeing on how to spend money with any other person requires compromise and mutual respect. It doesn't matter if it's your wife or girlfriend or business partner.

Holy Threadjack Batman!

Can we get parts of this thread moved to the "Emotional Masculinity" forum? (I think that's the one with the game cube meetups... right?)

To the guy convincing his wife to buy another one of these sweet new boats: I can only wish you luck, 'cause 60% of the time it works every time.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

There are all sorts of different classes, ratings, and endorsements on man cards.  Mine is endorsed for the classes "steel & velvet".  :)

What if I prefer Humminbird products?  Seems to me it would not be too difficult to design a "universal" transducer mount.

Also from the photo it appears the transducer is in the cavity above the black plastic cover.  How is shooting through a plastic cover different from shooting through a plastic hull?

I'm sure this will work with Humminbird with minimal effort. I'm guessing that they just call it Lowrance ready so they can sell a sponsorship.

From looking at a PA, the transducer "floats" between the hull and plastic cover and is encapsulated by water so air bubbles will be less of an issue. Plus since it's bolted down, there will be less movement, no water to spill out, accurate temp readings, etc. I think it's a good move and would have been on my list of improvements.

Downside is that you won't *get* to fiddle with the way you mount the thing as much. (foam, putty, Goop, etc) That's part of the fun.

Buy the $9 adaptor kit and you are good to go.  Hobie #84505901.

Back to the original subject; Do the 2014's come with marriage/relationship counseling?

Of course they do. It's the same plan as with all the previous models.
Studies have shown that households who work together to live within their budget grow closer together. If you buy one, you'll be automatically strengthening your relationship. Since a $2k hole is definitely not going to go unnoticed, you'll be forced to figure out a way to pay for food, the counseling aspect is inherent.

It's probably a lot cheaper than real counseling. Definitely a lot more fun too. Can I hear a "Win - Win"?

You may however need counseling for all the doodads that you'll realize you "need" after having the boat. But the continued spending will be self perpetuating the previously mentioned counseling regime; just one more "win" to the whole deal.

Note that this method of relationship strengthening is not unique to Hobie, all the other manufacturers offer similar plans.

Hope this helps, please feel free to post your success stories for the rest of us to refer to in our own relationship journeys.

The Hobie plan is more aggressive than most, probably on the same level as carbon fiber composite vessels.

I've been in contact with Lowrance engineering on a related subject.  They claim the material used in the "black plastic cover" is such that transducer works better through it for higher frequencies (think DSI) than through the poly materiel used for kayaks.  In fact the loss is negligible compared to shooting directly into the water.

You guys are too funny.  I like that Hobie added the built in trandsucer mount to the Outback; I wish I had waited a couple of months to buy my Outback now.

P.S.   My wife doesn't care if I buy a new Outback or not; she is happy with her Revo.

Hahaha this is great! After all that commotion and all the thread jacking...you finally chime in with the best rebuttal.  :D

I'm holding off on buying a new revo13 till the new improved one is available. It's torturous!! Aaaand my girlfriend is excited to be able to use my Outback. That's still mine...I'm greedy.  >:D

Allen, I can attest to the improvement...my Humminbird 768 does work better  in my PA-14 than shooting the the hull of my Outback.
Mind you, the Outback "STTH" presentation/sensitivity was very good, but I could immediately see the improvement in the PA Lowrance mount using the Humminbird adapter mentioned by snopro....$9.00 is well spent.....there is a 1/8" gap between the cover and bottom of the transducer in the water.
