I've never fished the Johns River/Grays Harbor salmon fishery. Any info on techniques, gear, area... Would be great. Island on giving it a shot.

I don't know if I will be able to affor another tourney. Between tackle and camping and entrance fee this one might be out of reach. But I hope everyone has fun!

Stay calm. There are plenty of large salmon that CAN be retained (coho). I got one in the 12-13lb range last year the day after the tourney. It's also just a really fun time hangin out with the nwka folks in a really cool place.

And If you get a king on (very good chances) it will be the ride of yer life. Will the fight be less exhilarating because you can't keep it? The thrill i get from reeling in a legal salmon is the same as one that's not. I sure do like eating fish but I am mostly in it for the sport.  You can tell I grew up fishing a landlocked region ;)

Anecdotally, fishing the salt (mostly flats) in FL i very rarely come across anyone who keeps fish. The fish there eat great, just different culture I guess.

I'm in Alaska right now making some much needed cash. Not sure when I'll be coming home -but I sure hope to be there for this tournament.

I HAD TOO LEAVE EARLY LAST YEAR ---SO DIDN'T GET TO HANG OUT AT ALL.

Time will tell if I can make it-but I sure do want to...
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

This might be the one I can fish this year.  I'll be there no matter what just to help out and catch up with some of you...

Hey OlySpec!  Good to see you back on the forum!  Hope that means you'r feeling better - It must if you are considering getting in some kayak fishing.  Good for you.  Glad you could hang in there until things got better.

Have fun at the tournament.  Good times always help me feel better too.  Good luck  - Land a big one -

Sorry, but the rod stated above is on backordered until October.   I'll try to get something equivalent or another rod needed be.

I'd love to make it out and learn the fishery.  We'll see how many favors I have left to cash in with my wife.

I gotta say....I've actually been looking forward to this one all year.  I caught gray's harbor fever last time!  for us guys that don't have alot of access to big kings (not to mention pig coho), this is our chance.  I will likely make a bigger trip out of it because I want to maximize my time on the water.  Definitely fish sunday and maybe monday too. gettin stoked just thinkin about it!

I hope I'm reading the regs wrong, but it looks like kings are going to be closed on the 28th in the harbor.

You should attend kykfshr's salmon seminar next week. It will give you the advantage needed for this tournament.

I am in.  I will sign up ASAP.  This is an awesome fishery.   I hope I can catch a coho this year.  All I could get to bite last year were Kings.  ::)
