took my dog Pepper and headed to Siltcoos on opening day to toss some spinners, there are some coho there...Pepper was relaxed about the whole fish catching thing, laying down in the back, you can see her head at the lower left behind the net...cheers, roger

Cool. Still hoping to go if I can this year. Catching a salmon in a lake is mighty appealing. Is Tahkenitch about the same or is one better than the other?

Do the lakes like Siltcoos blow-out or muddy up with heavy rains and get 'unfishable' like the coastal rivers do?

Nice fish.

nope, at least not in the main lake and near the outlets.  the rain actually helps, as the water level rises, they will incease spill over the dams that control the lake water level and that helps the rivers blow through the beach and open up for the fish to move up and into the lakes...roger

There were some fish there today, but no bites! Still, a beautiful day on Siltcoos!

I fished for a few minutes on wednesday. Didnt see any or get any bites. I was fishing around the outlet of the lake. Maybe thats not the best spot? I figured get them on the way in.

my wife and I hit the outlet area for several hours Thur. afternoon, no action, very few fish jumping or rolling.  (just south from the outlet river, little bay and then along the shore in that direction down towards Booth Island, that is where I hooked up Tuesday and it has produced in the past for us),

I headed out Fri. with a fishing friend and we hit both inlet arms and near the outlet, no action, very little fish activity seen, no other boats caught fish around us.

so my feeling is the initial burp of fish has spread out and we need more rain to bring in the next surge of coho...roger

Thanks for the report roger.  I'll be fishing the river tomorrow.

I think you made a good decision, we hiked out Siltcoos river and it is running high (dam opened more) but no fish jumping or rolling...also hiked out Tahk creek, very low, didn't see any fish.

on the other hand, Slaw has cleared some, swarm of boats below the 101 bridge and we saw a guy and his son catch a jack and adult coho from shore, so hopefully kings are also back on the bite...roger

I spent Friday pedaling Siltcoos with my dog along for the ride, another beautiful sunny day here on the central coast. very few boats out and the coho are spread out very thin, 6.5hours on the water and I only saw 1 big roll and 2 jacks jump...I did not see any coho caught but a few were being cleaned back at the marina.

I started by casting near FishMill's for an hour, then headed across to the FiddleCreek arm and went way up Fiddle Creek also...a bald eagle was circling up there, 20 Canadian Geese and a bunch of loons but no coho.   I came back along Booth Island, no fish along there, worked the area south of the inlet another 90minutes and had one light strike while trolling a spinner that it didn't hook up...

my GPS had me pedaling 10.8 miles....just need some rain to bring in the next big surge of fish but it looks dry and sunny for another week.  I think patience is the key word for our coho lakes at this point...cheers, roger

I fished the Maple arm on saturday for a few hours. There were quite a few fish on the surface but they didnt seem to be biting. There were around a dozen boats just fishing in the arm and i saw 3 fish caught and heard of a few more. The ones i saw caught were just across from the dock at Nightengales. Everyone i talked to seemed to agree that the fish were not biting. I plan to try it again after we get some rain.  I noticed the ramp was full at tahkenitch on the way by. I havent heard anything though.

Thanks for the reports guy's.  I've been itching to fish Siltcoos just waiting for the rain.  I'm debating wether to fish the Siuslaw this weekend or fish Siltcoos.
