Here's a video report from last Friday at Pacific City.  Clear water allowed some good shots of blacks in the kelp that weren't interested in biting.  Found my personal best cabby after she pulled my jig off of a rock I was hung up on - certainly not the first time I've had a cabby do that.  She ended up going 28" and 15 lbs.  Landed a 32" ling who attacked a live greenling.  Jellyfish were thick as I've ever seen them.  Weather was unbeatable!
Happy Friday!

So cool seeing that many blacks schooled up like that. Did you know they were together that thick when you filmed it? The clarity was awesome!
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Yeah, I could see them below me.  It was about 15 to 20 ft. of water.  The school was HUGE.  I pedaled off 50 yds. in another direction and there was still a bunch below me.

Thanks for the video Jeff.  Yeah, those "non-biting" rockfish have a tough time getting away when we go spearfishing.  People don't realize how thick they can get until you get in the water with them. ;)

I still totally love hook-n-line fishing though!

Great video!  Thanks for sharing.  Its always amazing to me to be able to look down and see fish.  I think that's why I love to ice fish so much even if it is insanely cold here in Alaska.  You may be thinking "there are no fish here" but more often they are and not jus thitting.  That would have been exciting but frustrating to observe those fish and not have one hit your jig.

Awesome!!!

I know.  ::)  While I was watching those blacks I was thinking, "Man I wish I had a suit and a speargun."  It was ok, though.  I moved on to deeper waters and found much bigger fish.  ;D
There were a couple of spear-o's working the southeast side of the rock when we came back into the kelp around noon though.  By then the jellies had moved in and they were so thick we couldn't really even fish.

Sweet vid!! Puts those schools that show on the FF into perspective!

I've had a lot of cabs do that too. Pretty sure they grab the jig then stick themselves between rocks or a cave while expanding their pectoral fins. I've pulled several "snags" loose to find cabs with scrapes on their sides after being forcefully dislodged from the rocks.

Jeff,  Thanks so much for sharing your vids!  That's the kind of day I want to go fishing on the ocean!  Nice.

Don't the cabbies poke your legs when they wiggle around on deck?  Do you bonk them right away to keep them from doing that?
