Who is still thinking about wanting to go to montague?  There is now a kodiak trip in August...do we still have interest?
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Montague? What happened to Shelter Bay? Dave and I are still interested in a PWS trip.

I'm more interested in the PWS trip and less so on the Kodiak.  I can only really do one "camp/fish" trip this year (that is off main road system), so I would think the PWS would be cheaper....plus it would hopefully not be during hunting season.  For me, May-July is my dedicated fishing season and Aug-November is more of a dedicated hunting season.  I can be swayed if the Kodiak is cheaper or comparable, but initial reaction is No on Kodiak and Yes on PWS.

Actually I'd rather do montague. I thought people lost interest in Montague
Logistically speaking its a lot easier and probably the same cost as Kodiak if not cheaper. And I'm willing to bet a comparable experience. Not to mention crv is right, end of August is hunting season

I wil say the weather can be real crap I. Montague though. And it would be quite possible to go there and never be able to fish. At least with Kodiak there will be a sheltered place to fish at all times

I guess the weather depends on where on the islands you would be located.

If you're in the lee side of the island, it can be blowing hard, but you're protected a bit more.  We experienced this at Shelter Bay and near Shelter Bay.  On one day, we took a pounding getting over to Hinchenbrook, but within a mile of land it literally glassed off.  We could see it still blowing to the outside of us.  Similar experience at Port Chalmers cabin on Montague.

But yeah, if you are on the outside of the islands, you can get "weathered".

On montague we have no way to travel around the island. On Kodiak you can drive to whatever side of the island isn't sucky. I'm pretty sure anyway.

I spent 13 days on montague once. Was only supposed to be there for 6! The only days it wasn't a &@$" show was the day we flew in and the day we flew out. I rolled out of there with one bag of freeze dried mashed potatoes after rationing my food for 4 days!

Alright so my over posting now is indicating I have officially got the fishing bug...
Browsing the forest service website it looks like July is pretty open for reserving the San Juan bay cabin. If you guys want to do montague you want a cabin and I wouldn't wait too long to reserve it

Alright folks.....chime in on your preferred dates, length of trip, and location.

We need to at least reserve the cabin now!!!

There are only 6 spots in the cabin and on the water taxi

Here's some pics from when I was there in 2010 I think. This was a 12 pack charter IIRC. We were fishing San Juan bay. We caught silvers, halibut, rockfish, lings and probably other less notable fish. There were other boats there and I know the charter boys fish there pretty often
