Here is a pretty good write up from Salmon University on fishing T-Bay....check it out.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Ok folks after I get Chris rigged and out of here , or we get rained out for a day I'll get a write up of my suggestion for the tournament and for thoes crabbing I grabbed a bunch of fish carcasses and tossed them in the freezer I'll be pulling them Thursday to start the defrost and they will be $1 each for crab bait the buck will be going into the raffle money jar to benefit HOW.  ;D

Anyone CATCHING salmon in Tbay lately??
I fished out there on Thursday and talked to two PB who both said no go on the salmonoids. Didn't drop my crab pot due to expected winds in the early afternoon. So no crab report either. Did well on the rockfish, no lings this time, unless that was the one that broke off.

Salmon reports are 8 I have heard of but there aren't a lot of boats trolling out there yet.
So this is my idea for tournament day if I were fishing it.
1-Launch at dawn and troll something in the sand worm looking range out through the narrows for perch.
B-Drop my crab traps along the south wall.
3-drift jig croppie rigs with 1/2-2 oz jig heads placing a 4-5 inch gulp live shad color bait on the jig and 2-3 inch matching gulp live on the croppie rig
D-once I'm limited on rocks drop a 4 oz lancer or equivalent and drift it till you ling limit or are tired of fighting the inbound.
5-pickup the crab trap and cross over to the bird shit rocks on the 101 side and fish for perch sand shrimp or sand worms real or fake.
F-Troll the ghosthole for salmon till you have rubber arms or legs.
7-Weigh in your catch crab included (red rock crab don't count)

Sounds like a plan.   No crabbing for me though, I have enough new stuff going on that day.   I'll be at the camp ground around noon Friday.

Early to tell but weather looks decent, but wave action (presumably off shore) looks ugly.  From windfinder:

Rising barometer for Saturday bodes well.
Aside from Shannon, does anyone else want to share their strategy for fishing TBay?  It's a very large body of water, lots of places to go try for various species.  I'm gonna take a look at the tide times and exchanges and determine a possible plan (if I can fish on Sat. that is...).  I'd like to try the ghost hole and find a springer!!

Waves won't be an issue if you stay out of the mouth and the tips of the jetty are the boundary no one is allowed to cross the bar!

I'm trying to decipher the salmon regulations for Tillamook Bay  ??? ???
Can I use treble hooks?  Barbs on the hook are ok??
Wild AND Hatchery fish are permissible to keep or just Hatchery??

Looks like:

Gear: Barbed hooks are allowed when angling for marine fish except as noted for salmon, steelhead and sturgeon.

And from here:
http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/salmon/

Within the area adjacent to Tillamook Bay, between Twin Rocks and Pyramid Rock, and inside the 15 fathom depth contour, only adipose fin-clipped Chinook may be retained or on board a vessel while fishing prior to August 1.

Tillamook Bay
All tidewater upstream to Hwy 101 bridges on Kilchis, Miami, Wilson and Trask Rivers, and Burton Bridge on Tillamook River

Open all year for hatchery steelhead.
Open for hatchery spring Chinook salmon inside the jetty tips from Apr 1 – Jul 31.
Open for fall Chinook salmon Aug 1 – Dec 31 (North Coast Wild Chinook Aggregate Bag Limit applies).
Open to hatchery spring Chinook during any authorized ocean fishery prior to Aug 1 in the Tillamook spring Chinook Terminal Area.
Tillamook spring Chinook Terminal Area (ocean) extends from the visible ends of jetty tips seaward to the 15 fathom line offshore from Twin Rocks (45* 35’54” N. lat.) to Pyramid rock (45* 29’ 48” N. lat.).

Can Too!!!   >:D  I just called ODFW to clarify the regs since I can never find all the info in one place.
Hatchery Chinook only (no wild retention) 24" is an adult.  Can keep 5 fin clipped jacks (16"-23.99").
Trebles OK, Barbs OK, Double Herring hooks OK.
