The brain trust back in our nation's capital think rescue capabilities and response times to the central Oregon coast will not be substantially affected by closing down the USCG Helo base in Newport, OR. If they are successful in this penny pinching campaign we could potentially be clinging to our kayaks waiting for help to arrive from either Coos Bay or Astoria.

NWKA brothers and sisters please show your love to the Newport Fisherman's Wives Association and sign their petition to keep this valuable life-saving service up and running for the safety of all that visit our Pacific Paradise.

Thanks,
Anthony

Shit, even beach combers get hit with sneakers and sucked out in rips. They are probably most vulnerable. You don't see many dry suits/survival suits or life jackets on the beach.

Is there documentation for how many rescues and how many stranded vessels they locate each year during searches?

The following is from letter to Rear Admiral Gromlich from state rep Gomberg.

"Forty times this year, Newport helicopters have responded to distress calls. In at least five cases, they have saved lives. I urge you to reconsider this decision which will certainly place future lives in further jeopardy."

Sincerely,

Rep. David Gomberg
