Another month another video. One of my favorite Puget Sound fisheries since its a relatively short drive even for Vancouver/PDX folks (about 1.5 hours). This is a great fishery for those just getting into kayak angling as it gets you your first taste of planning a trip in the salt around tides and current but you are spared any swells and commercial traffic. For wildlife lovers its a great place as there are usually good numbers of waterfowl and marine life to observe out there. Enjoy the video and have a wonderful and safe time on the water.

Apologies. If the flounder population crashes on the Nisqually you can blame me. Hopefully the other 1/3rd of your secrets will still give you the edge.  ;)

Great video.  I have spent a lot of time on the water out there.  One word of caution, beware of the North wind, it can create some big rollers, not always but with the wrong tide it will get your attention for sure.

Most of the time the wind comes out of the south though.

Herring smelly jelly on a small buzz bomb works wonders as well.  Those fish are a lot of fun, I haven't been after them for years, so I may have to target them sometime.  I am usually out there smacking ducks.

Enjoy!

There were a ton of Bufflheads and scoters out there the other day. Saw a couple drake Long-tails too. Beautiful birds.

I target the widgeon and let the sea ducks go.  I will go fishing if I want to eat a fish. lol.

Long tailed ducks are very pretty.  I once had a flock of pacific brant work my decoys.  Those show up late in the season and probably around this time as well.

I was out there in April last year and there must have been 2000+ Brant on the mudflats out there. Fishing on a -0.8' tide was kind of crazy with the currents but the bite was solid all day long.

Great video. Thank you!

Can any of you Oregon fishers suggest areas to try? I guess what I'm asking is: where haven't the sea lions screwed things up?

Somehow I think they'll do just fine [emoji6] Glad to see you found a few good ones! The last time we went on Jan 3rd all the starry were hand sized. I'm more concerned with the ever growing sealion population in the whole Nisqually Reach. There seems to be more every season, and their getting bolder too. One big bull almost jumped into fungunnin's lap in a territorial display one of our last duck hunts!
