Just cod for me....I lost a decent butt and a small king. I had to come in a little early cause I wasn't feeling it today for some reason.  Sitting here on the beach waiting for the update from Rudy

I also lost a decent halibut at the side of the kayak. Kept a small flounder simply because he swallowed the hook and was going to die anyway.

Ok.  Hit the road at 11pm.  Got to Whiskey Guch at 2:30am.  Slept till 4:30am in the car.

Weather was great in the morning.  Bait and great marks everywhere but I had committed to fishing halibut since the annual limit in the area is 2 and I have the Anchor Point derby next weekend.  Then of course as the tide turned, not only did the weather get bad but the fish disappeared too.

Got the halibut in the first hour. Maybe 15 pounds if I stuff a few cannon balls in it.  Still fresh halibut!   After that I set one personal best after another on Irish Lords.  They were HUGE.  Dang, no pics.

So the fish are there.  Mike who was with us got two halibut and a king last weekend.  Another person did the same and I think ErickBlim got a king and butt too last week.  Today, it was just one halibut.  So still hit and miss but it seems like if you put in the time, you have a chance.  Only gets better from here!

Here's the vid.

Nice video Rudy and congrats on the first halibut of the year, glad someone came home with dinner.  I am confused...annual limit of two kings in the Whiskey Gulch area?  I swear I've read the regulations 50 times and didn't come across that...is that an emergency order?

Ok I found it.

• From April 1-July 15, the combined annual limit is 2 king salmon 20 inches or greater in length for fish harvested in the Anchor River, Deep Creek, and Ninilchik River and all marine waters south of the latitude of the mouth of the Ninilchik River to the latitude of Bluff Point.

Its crazy that this order is dated February 19, 2015....which is before the regulation booklet came out.  You'd think they would have just put it in the book to avoid the confusion.

Yup.  Check the EO's for Anchor, Ninilchik, Deep Cr and Marine water EO's

I thought that was pretty cool too.  I am going to make an effort with halibut to try and show scenes like that since as cool as a bent rod screaming drag is, you can only watch it so long before its just a bent rod making noise.  lol.

I need to kill a few fish so the family, friends, and parents can have some fresh fish.  Get the derbies out of the way, and then I am hoping to be able to take my video content to another level.  Nothing crazy.  Just more preparation and gear shots, some underwater videos, and more technical data like the depths and how the fight plays out.

i, and my youtube view history, are going to have to wholeheartedly disagree with you on this statement -
"as cool as a bent rod screaming drag is, you can only watch it so long before its just a bent rod making noise."

K-84:

Where'd you find the jumbo fish-keeper / stringer / giant paperclip ?   Have been living with a Macgyver rig with rope and an old rusty coat hanger..... MIGHT be time to upgrade.  LOL.

Lemme know eh ?
