The regulations need to be even so that the playing field is level.

Hmm well for even playing field, it's kinda crazy how the noobs like myself are trying to go against sponsored pros... It's not like we try and even out the handicaps with net and gross scores or anything...

*shrugs* Maybe i've been listening to my golfing coworkers too long haha...

Like I said PSR regulations. When the rules favor one entrant over another that's when things need to be adjusted.

Don't let "sponsored pro" get you down. Poor old regular Spot took down 3 of those last year. We're all at different levels of skill and that's what any fishing tournament is about.

I can see it getting difficult to even things out when you have at least 3 different scenarios -

1. Washington regulations needing a team of lawyers to decifer slot limits and seasons
2. Oregon regulations allowing 2 rods in some fisheries IF an additional fee is paid
3. Oregon fishing choosing to use only 1 rod when 2 would also be allowed

Discussion about rule changes might be in order if Oregon does change the policy on multiple rods in lakes and reservoirs.

Yeah, well Oregonians will have to pay $5 a year just to put their kayak on the water.  :)

Seriously, what do you want Zee, Oregon anglers to only count every other bass, trout, and panfish they might catch?

I think Washingtonian's just need to push for a similar reg change.  After all, it's a great whay for DFW to earn some more money on their stocked bass and trout.

I'm not sure how this would affect AOTY unless they also change the seasons or retention criteria.

Jay

You fish in OR w/ two rods and have twice the chance to hookup. Can only use one rod in WA. We also really need to remedy the WA/OR largemouth bass rule..

Z

And while were at it, we need to get the Walleye out of the panfish category for next year.

I will still probably use just one rod...
See ya on the water..

Sounds like an AOTY Committee is about to be formed   :police:

If you want us to pay $5 extra I'm for it.

I think Washingtonian's just need to push for a similar reg change.  After all, it's a great whay for DFW to earn some more money on their stocked bass and trout.
While that's a nice idea that won't happen for a long time to come so let's stick to the problem at hand.

You know I don't see how this isn't coming through to you as not even to all entrants. If I could pay to use two rods I would also but since that option isn't there it's fundamentally unfair.

All I'm trying to get at is I think this would be a lot more competitive if the rules were even. It's never going to be perfect but this is a biggie IMO. God knows Wa residents are already having a hell of a time trying to get LMB's on the board. I'd hate to see things get anymore silly.

Obviously there are a number of issues that need to be addressed before AOTY 2010 begins...

What if I don't choose to get the two pole stamp as an Oregonian? How would you separate me and my AOTY points from someone who chose to purchase one.?

And ditto what CBY said on the walleye.  If walleye is a "panfish" then Halibut is a "rockfish/bottomfish" right? :)

I guess we'll have to talk about it.  I don't think the "I'm from Oregon and I promise to use only one rod" thing is going to work.  Right now the rules are tied to the local regulations such that if you want to cheat you basically have to break the law to do so.  Having special AOTY rules that modify regulations is going to be impossible to enforce.

Maybe we simply drop the overall AOTY leader and go with state by state winners based on where fish are caught and not where an angler is from.

Geez guys ... let's not complicate AOTY.  Just get out and fish.  The results will speak for itself ....

Okay, I admit the walleye thing was a poor plan on my part.  It needs to be a separate category.

This fishing tournament is about getting out and fishing.  Perhaps trying a fishery or 2 that you wouldn't otherwise have tried.  Talking a bit of smack with the boys.  Bragging a bit.  Having fun.
