I called the Sunset Bay SP booth and chatted with the fine lady working there, to see about this statement:

Quote
"The use of propane stoves and/or charcoal briquettes for cooking may be allowed, but are subject to local fire restrictions."

Bottom line is that we can use both the propane and charcoal to cook from while in the actual campground area, but is not allowed out on the beach areas.

Thank goodness, as my plans were to cook my dinners over charcoal Thurs and Friday evenings.

Now, I'm not sure where that puts the potluck as far as on the beach area, or the campground area?
The deep fryers may get shut down.  Those that are bringing or plan on frying at the potluck, may want to call the Sunset State Park booth @ 541-888-8867 and select "0" and talk to the receptionist.

If you don't get through with that one, the other number I was given is 541-888-3778, but I don't remember where this one will ring up.

OK,  Drum roll please!!

Here's the deal. WE are going to do a split tourney. We will  still be doing Sunset for the points per inch tourney and the big prizes, that is where the potluck and awards ceremony will be also, same as usual. Get out early and hopefully get some fishing time in.

We are also opening up the option to Salmon fish in the bay, this will NOT be a points per inch deal. The single heaviest fish will get $100 bucks. The second heaviest will get 50 bucks.

I figure this will give everyone a chance to win something.

If you will be planning to Salmon fish instead of sunset you will need to make sure you have come to the captains meeting at my house Friday night or swing by sunset early and sign your waiver.

All the weighing and measuring will be at Sunset. If  you go out at Sunset, make sure you check in with Dana so we can have a head count of people fishing there.

If you have any questions ask here, NWKA or PM.
See ya on the water..

Also,

Leave your firewood at home.  As of this morning at 10am, there is a state wide ban on campfires in the Oregon State Parks.

Oregon State Parks

Effective Aug. 19 at 10 a.m., a statewide ban is in place for all campfires and open flames in properties owned and managed by Oregon State Parks, as well as the ocean shores. This includes but is not limited to fire pits, tiki torches, and candles. The use of propane stoves and/or charcoal briquettes for cooking may be allowed, but are subject to local fire restrictions. Please check with park staff. This ban will remain in effect for at least one week and will be re-evaluated based on fire status, weather and guidance from state and local fire officials.

This sux, as I had my daughter and niece load up a good 3-4 hundred pounds of firewood last night into the bed of my truck.  Guess I'll be unloading it all in the morning before we leave for Sunset.

I need to get specifics from the park if I can use charcoal to cook on or not.  :-
I have a propane fire pit if you want to use it.  Unfortunately I dont have room in the Jeep to bring it but if you want to swing by on your way out of town and you have the room (its not too big) you can take it....

Uhm, check my above note.  Campfires are banned pretty much anywhere that touches an Oregon State Park (as of yesterday morning).
Propane and charcoal are fine for cooking within the campground, but not on the beach area.

Propane cooking fires are OK in campground and in the cove as long as they are small.

OK, Major announcement!!!

Due to circumstances beyond my control we will be unable to have The measure-in, potluck and awards ceremony at Sunset Bay this year. It really sucks and has to do with  State park policies that I never knew about before.

the measure-in and festivities will be at my house, fishing will be allowed at Sunset and  Salmon on the bay as specified before. Please try to check in on Friday evening at the captains meeting. Dana will be at  Sunset early to check in those that don't do facebook early Saturday morning for a couple hours.

The last time to check in fish will be moved to 2:30 pm to allow more time to get my house.

Please bring some ice for the keg if you can

Sorry for the inconvenience. We will not have this issue next year.

See you all tomorrow at 6;30 pm for the captains meeting, we will tap the keg so come a little early if you want to avoid a rush to sign up at 6:30.

Parking will be an issue with this many people coming to my house, please carpool with as many people as possible to lessen the load. Get together with your camp mates  when you come to the captains meeting and for the potluck/awards ceremony please.

don't worry about carpooling when coming to measure/weigh your fish.

Sorry that it got so complicated...

Thanks

Does anyone have a splitting maul they can bring to the potluck? got some big chunks of wood that need to be split.

And please don't bring dogs to the potluck unless you want to keep them in your vehicle, my dogs do not play well with other dogs...

Do we have an address for the captains meeting and for the everything else after the weigh in? And are the prizes and potluck right after the weigh in or is there a delay between that and check in? Thanks!
