Look how close the warm water is getting.  If they get within five to ten miles I'm going for it.  Who's in?

Well, on a good day I'd have a hard time saying no. Although, that's a trip I'd rather peddle than paddle.

Outfitters peddle fishing trips.  Some kayakers pedal their kayaks.

pelagics from a kayak is a total blast, check out my trip here:
if they get within 5 miles of PC i might consider it if conditions allow. i think it would be a very narrow window of opportunity.

10 miles is no big deal.  Takes less than 3 hours to get that far.

Some guys in San Diego decided to do the same this year, launched from shore, hit the 5 mile mark, and caught some bluefin.  DO IT!!!

If the warm water ever makes it within 5 miles, I will be there.
On a side note I saw tuna while halibut fishing a few years back.  They disappeared really quickly though.

I think I'd still want a mothership for tuna fishing.
The thought of cooler space on a kayak is ominous, and I would want to catch more than one!
Would love to catch tuna from my kayak, that would be so much fun!! ;D

Everyone has their own limits of course. Just speaking for myself - I'd be a little creeped out being 10mi offshore with no other pb's in close range/contact in case something went south, though.

Some of the dory's at PC Sunday we're targeting tuna at 15 miles didn't stick around for the results. I might be down if you guys want to take turns towing my barge back in , lol I could get a pretty big cooler or two strapped on my deck.

If anyone is keeping a list or something  ;D I'd be up for this. I'd probably have to edge towards the 5 mile mark rather than the 10 (I've done 15 miles in a day, so that's in my comfort zone) but I'd do it in a group.

What it must be like to be young and in shape ....    I am another that loves the thought but would want a mother ship to haul my geriatric arse to the fish and back.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

There was a thread on ifish last year regarding this subject. A group of kayakers (maybe some from here?) had their kayaks hauled out to the tuna grounds (50 miles or so), then they unloaded the kayaks and went to work. The video showed them having great success and lots of fun. Unfortunately I couldn't find the link. It looks like this year may be a repeat of 2007 when tuna were caught very close in because guys are already catching tuna at the banana which is only about 20 miles from Newport. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if fish are within 10 miles (or closer) of Depoe Bay by August.
