I have been reading Mark's posts on fishing out of Knappton. Anyone fishing the Oregon side?

Not yet, but we usually launch at Hammond or social security beach near the jetty.

I'm pretty sure you can launch on the Washington side with an Oregon license and visa-versa.
Is there an advantage to putting in at Hammond or Social Security beach ?
Like direct access to water--- or good lanes for fish travel ???
How about powerboat traffic on the south side ?
What about Young's Bay ??? Any launches there ???

I have put in at the John Day River to fish Tongue Point. It's a pretty long way out to the main channel of the Colombia from there .

Don't know much about launches further in on the Oregon side.....

The Oregon side doesn't really have anything for you right now since the good places to launch on that side are all below the bridge. The river is closed between the bridge and B10 until Aug 1st. But when it is open Hammond and Ft Stevens are fantastic places to launch. There are very productive places to fish just beyond the beaches. It is of the utmost importance to choose your tides wisely though. This area can be very deceiving with fast changing unpredictable weather and very strong currents, not to mention the crazy boat traffic. Aside from all that, there's a good reason thousands of boats pack this area during August.

Yeah, with a strong outgoing tide you can get in trouble here.  While out on a jet ski yesterday we took a good look at that shallow area near the jetty.  If you end up there, you will be in big trouble in even a small swell.

Thanks fellas. As a native Oregonian, Ft. Stevens is hallowed ground ...

I would suggest that anyone that wants to catch a salmon, get out there between now and 8/3. I can guarantee the fishing will be awesome. How can I make this guarantee with confidence, you ask? Simple. I am in Los Angeles for work until then. This is a proven pattern. Oh, and you're welcome.

In all seriousness though the tides from tomorrow through the next weekend are going to suck for trying to fish that spot in a kayak.
Sunday was not as good.

Hey Rawk, can you expound on that a bit? I'm trying to learn, and scouted that area last weekend from a PB - definitely don't want to get sucked onto the spit by that 5+kt ebb!   :o :o :o

My tide table says this week should have 8-9' incoming tides morning. That seems like a good reverse flood. What am I missing - just the speed of the flood?  ???
