I'll be based out of Ninilchik but open to kayak  with others going out. Is Seward still worth a trip on my way or should I just stay with WG and Homer? So many options.

Cohos are low on my list. Besides we hooked up three in an hour of trolling off WG. Halibut size is improving. Bite has slowed but they are still there in enough quantities to limit out. Kings will start in Honer end of the month. New areas are cool but I live 3 hours away and still make the drive to Homer and WG. Without the king conservation zone, I've often wondered what launching out if Deep cr would be like. Save me an hour of driving.

I'd stay near Hone given you are blessed with the proximity to what u consider the best fishing now.

Thanks for the tip. I've fished Deep Creek a few times and worked for the bite. Less experience with WG but the action has always been there. Friends of mine fish Deep Creek  April and May and do quite well of a Zodiac.

If I limit on Butt & Kings I would not mind finding a stringer of juvenile Black Cod or Rock fish since it will be a meat run. That's the interest in Seward.

Seward is a blast.  Rockfish and black cod, Sewards the spot. But you may be there a while if you are waiting for limits of halibut and kings.  Can happen. Will happen with enough time but probability is much lower...for me at least.

I've got a week to fish and will start at WG. If I do well I'll head to Seward. Will you be out there that weekend?

Now that I have been shown up by RYU I realize I need to get back on the water.  LOL

If weather looks good I am hoping to be down to WG on Saturday/Sunday but have commitments for Monday AM.   Will confirm as I get closer to the day, but looking good for now!

If you do head to Seward, the Juvy Sablefish shouldn't be a problem.  That whole stretch from Lowell past Tonsina to Derby Cove seemed to have big schools of them at anything from <20' to 60' down, over depths from 40 to 120+feet.    We could do no wrong the last couple trips, just drag some herring behind you and when you hit them stop and mooch for them or zigzag back through them again.   Hopefully they have not moved farther out.

WG Friday,  11th,  and Sat is my plan. Had great/horrible fishing this past weekend.  Got to see Ryu bring in  his fish as soon as we hit our fishing spot. It was super cool bc he (and Rudy) were so stoked. That catch set the tone!

However,  that day,  we landed 2 small halibut.  I also had a hookup that was strong... But never saw the fish...so who knows.

Next day,  Uuqutiiq brought a nice fish as big as Ryu's (60) to the boat twice,  but we lost it on my second try to put a shark hook into its face.  Until she catches one bigger,  I'll be known as 'he who can't gaff." so frustrating. But such is fishing.  I lost a 30+ lb fish bc I was deep trolling a silver rig.  That's the correction I'm making for this weekend.  Heavy leader line and a harpoon rather than a shark hook.

Even this late,  we had 9 halibut to our boats on Sunday.  Lost the biggest two.  Let the smallest go.  Had one with the white meat/vitamin deficiency issue on board.  Meat was nasty.

Hope to redeems our equipment issues and/or at least haul I  some meat this weekend.

Weather looking a tad iffy until Saturday.  I may just focus Sat and Sunday...or take Monday rather than Friday off.....

I checked my offshore weather 4x in the last 4 hours... have seen every thing from Seas 5 to 6 feet for Saturday to seas 3' and 15 knots.. .  Whats up with the forecasts?  Maybe I am just looking too often.   IN any case - hoping it settles - if it keeps up with Seas 5 - 6 Ill be in seward!
