I do have a quick question for any of you that may spend any amount of time in the columbia, is there an abundance of crawfish? Every time I drive out I see alot of areas I would love to try for smallies, but in some of the videos and such I don't notice many guys targeting smallies with crawdads, is this because no one has tried it or because it doesn't work?
If any of you have time to give some crawdads a try this spring let me know how that works for ya.

I used a small floating crawfish lure (hard plastic)  last year and caught two bass.  One bass was pretty big but I couldn't get a picture of it for the tourney.  I get too excited about catching the fish so I need to get more practice photographing the results!   Bi-mart is where I got the lure.

You are not allowed to use live crawfish/crawdads as bait in Oregon.

Crawdad pattern creature baits work really well at times.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

No live bait here in idaho either, plastic craws, check out dry creek outfitter. They hand poor all their baits and they rock!! Snake river craw is one of my favorites.....just add water.

No way, they don't work at all and no one should use them, especially in tournaments ;-)

This is my all time favorite smallmouth bait in the Willamette. Results on the Columbia have been mixed.

Does oregon have an special regs that kayakers need to follow fishing in that state. particularly with having an invasive species sticker or anything. I live in washington, and they do not require anything like that. A couple of us are planning on coming down from the tri-cities, and just trying to get some info.

Yes. You will need an OR license, Columbia River Basin endorsement, and an Aquatic Invasive Species Permit, if your boat is 10ft. or longer.

I do not remember if day licenses cover the Columbia River Basin endorsement - but I think they do - so check that if you're just getting a day license.

Aquatic Invasive Species permits are $5 + $2 fee and are good for the calendar year.
