Great thread idea here ... does anyone name their kayaks?  Split off from another topic.

Spoonchucker----how was fishing Sat at Point Robinson??

On my maiden voyage with the Revolution in Quartermaster Harbor, I noticed a big feather being blown toward me, I picked it up.  It's an eagle wing feather, That seems to suggest a boat name but I don't have it quite defined----any suggestions?

My yak is named F/V BELLEO. My two dogs names put together.

Yours should be F/V OG Kalli. I can't think of anything cool that would connote an eagle wing feather.

Another good name would be NOGAS
See ya on the water..

How about something from the latin name for bald eagle?  From the Google:

The Latin name for the bald eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, comes from a series of Greek words. Haliaeetus comes from the Greek word "halos," meaning "the sea," and "aetos," or "eagle." Together they mean "sea eagle," referring to the bald eagle's fish-eating habits.

A kayak named "Haliaeetus" would certainly have some mystique.

I was thinking I'd just name my kayak polepole.  But then there would be polepole paddling the polepole.  Naw, that won't work ... also because I paddle a few different kayaks and they can't all be named polepole.  Hmm, polepole I, polepole II, polepole III, etc.    Still sounds a bit hokey.  More thinking to do ...

Pacific Mountain Guides names their kayaks after salmon and trout: Coho, Pink, Sockeye, Dolly, etc.

for those intersted in latin names....

imho, the best english to latin translator
http://www.tranexp.com:2000/Translate/result.shtml

fishing eagle = everriculum aquila
fish hunter = piscis venator (I'll actually use for my profile personal text!)
silly fishing fool = leviculus everriculum fossor

You could probably get a sign shop to cut lettering for your 'yak pretty cheap. You wouldn't need more than a few inches tall.  Look up CalStripe if you want to add a bit of vinyl striping, too.   ;D

That's it----Aquila!!  Also a nice constellation, The Eagle.

Will go for a nice script Aquila from our local boat name signmaker in Lake Union.

Merlin is the name of my boat (once it gets here). I am naming it after the rickety old Hummer that got my crew and I through a year in Iraq. The Humvee was named after the old magician on sword of the stone because like the old magician it was old and slightly decrepit, but like the boy in the movie we were placing our trust in him to get us through the journey.

After reading Polepoles reply I am thinking maybe I should change my user name......Merlins captain.....or maybe Arthur.
Enjoy the ride!

I call my 16' aluminum john boat the "Platypus" because its so ugly, and don't really have a name for my drift boat.
For my Ultimate 12, "Juicy Lucy" keeps popping into my head. That might be her name. >:D
