Talked to a couple guys on power boats, they said the king action was hot today at the bluffs if anyone is adventurous.

What makes halibut meat chalky, I've often wondered about that?
haven't really had any mushy fish but a lot of them are chalky
leading theory is lactic acid build up due to stress. warm water is often correlated to it but seems odd right now to have chalky fish.

managed a 10 to 12 pound king and maybe a 8 pound halibut. gotta get off water early. full report later.

I saw these posts the other day, and thought to myself that's odd - I haven't seen any mushy fish at all from this last season.... And then I thawed two pieces of fish for dinner last night - both from smaller 10 to 15lb - WG fish from May and June of last year.    Jackpot - got one mushy filet that wouldn't firm up at all as I cooked it, and the second was chalky/grainy.   So much for thinking I beat the odds last year, looks like I'll have a few more filets of the same as I work through the bags of fish from those trips.    I shouldn't complain - I still have fish while my ribs heal, but man was that a disappointing.    Time to get some fresh catch soon I hope.
