congratulations to gravesjacob!!!  Officially 13th out of 1,491 entries. all but about 12 off of powerboats!!!

Not to continue the griping,  but given they claim two additional fish were missed, how he dropped three places minimum, I don't know. They didn't announce the official results for full two days and after a comittee mtg. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall. Still I had a blast.

Still a historic showing for the kayaks!!!  Way to get'er done Jacob!!!  Congrats!!!

Rudy,

Where did you get the official results?  I just checked the derby's website and didn't see them posted anywhere.  Knuckle-Up cleaned house, over $50,000 and they didn't even have the winning fish!

So for those interested, there is the Anchor Pont Calcutta king derby.  This is a derby unlike the Homer Derby where we stand an equal chance per rod to win it.  But there's a catch.  Payout is terrible...unless you bid and win for your own boat.  Kayaks tend to go for less but no thanks to the precedent GravesJacob sent, we may be in high demand.  lol.  I've paid anywhere from $50 to $200 dollars for my kayak in the past.  But we can also enter, use it as a weigh in station and have "side bets" going amongst the kayakers.

I will be sponsoring a halibut derby in June sometime.  With the Anchor Point derby, I think we will limit the NWKA Yak classic to Halibut so we can focus on catching a big fish.  Stay tuned for details.

That's what I was wondering and I tested my boga scale with one at the house and they are less than a pound apart, but hey its over with and nothing I can do lol. It was a huge accomplishment for me and even though I think there was some funky shit going on I wouldn't trade the experience but I will get a certified calibrated scale for next time lol

When is the anchor point derby ?

I think its the second weekend in May.  They don't advertise it much, but its a fun and often productive fishery!

As far as the weight thing goes....I am going to look into it.  I plan on asking Fish and game for the weight length of each fish for the past derbies as well as this one.  Call it biological curiosity....The fish were exceptionally small this year....I think.

One of my suggestions for next year regardless is the fish needs to be weighed in a manner where we can see the weight.  Also I would like a protocol where a test weight is used on every 10th fish or more.  I've worked in enough fish plants where every so often, a pice of fish or whatever gets caught in the scales and it under weighs the fish.  Having said the, GravesJacob's fish was the first fish entered so it sorta rules out a few scenarios.  Another suggestions is to get a CPA firm to sponsor or pay them and audit the results.  Nice derby software to get real time updates online would be a good thing as well.

I agree with that good idea, and I'm sure their scale was on point it
plus who knows maybe holding the fish at an angle where the boga grip read wrong, or had my hand on the fish who knows. Givin my excitement over the whole thing there is no way I can blame anyone or anything for the weight of the fish. But I think a length weight chart would be awesome
