we will see how they resolve it.  until then, I'll just say there was a mini riot going on. what I know for sure...they announce 11th place at 16 pounds plugs. then they wait , then announce 10th place and it's not Gravesjacob who had a 17.3 pound fish. went to go check, and ran into a lot of screaming and yelling. it wasn't just Gravesjacob.  that's what I know for sure so I await a response from the derby.

With that many boats, anglers and fish being tracked all day, it wouldn't surprise me if HQ just made some honest mistakes at the end of the day, and a pissed off mini-riot probably didn't help calm them down and get them thinking straight. I hope it all gets sorted out. After all, it's just putting numbers in descending order. If someone was intentionally messing with the results they'd have to do it at the scales, not after the fish have already been weighed.

to am extent I agree. I think they got overwhelmed and 90% of the staff are volunteers. I feel for them. but as they svrambled , they were giving completely unsatisfactory answers. They needed to just admit their mistakes...which they did, but with better answers.

only 30 or so people were even left at the end. I went in back and one of the volunteers was practically yelling "where did this fish come from??"  it was a 20 pounder off a powerboat. the guy was standing right there.

keep in mind that A) this is the 23rd derby. not the first. B)over 140,000 in entry fees alone not counting side bets that run to 500 bucks per boat are placed.

this isn't just a friendly wager. they could easily lose a license or gaming permit even with innocent mistakes. if there was funny businesz , it'd be criminal.

All I am asking for is a written explanation. nobody wants this Derby to go away.  I promote this Derby with the best of intentions. But without a proper explanatuon, I won't be pronoting, let alone entering it next year. it's an easy fix. admit the problem.  fix this year's results. make it right to the folks that screwed, and implement a methodology that can prevent this in the future. that's all I ask.

I've made mistakes in the past. we all have.  it's how you resolve the issues that allow for everyone to move on.
.if they sweep this under the rug, I'm done with them.

I'll be interested to see the official top 20, and hope that it is accurate and in accordance with the rules.

For my part, I had a great day on the water and consider it a successful one for me even though I didn't land a fish. I tried out some new gear on my third trip out on the new Revo16. I got a solid take-down, which finally gave me confidence that I was doing the right thing, with the right gear, in the right place. I took my first accidental bath in 140' of water, self recovered, stayed dry, and didn't lose anything. And, I stayed on the water, fishing hard for 6.5 continuous hours. My comfort/endurance limit in the old kayak was about 4. In all regards, it was a great day for me, and great to see so many kayak anglers on the water, and catching fish. Catching a king myself would have been icing on the cake.

Although I have some mixed feelings about the derby that was an awesome turnout and experience and I'm happy I was fortunate to place in the derby out of all the power boats and to meet everyone it was a great get together and a blast and to me that's what it is all about

you are a good man gravesjacob.  I think I was way more upset than you were and frankly I'm on a bit of a warpath because despite your sporting sttitude, I will say it....it was complete bullshit what they did. they sure got through the top ten trophy presentations in a hurry despite the results being "unofficial" .  I'd be ultra pissed if I was part of the 100 dollars and up boat side bets.

I'm glad I fished the derby.  I've posted over 200 fishing videos and the video I got this weekend was PRICELESS!  Can't wait to see it on a bigger screen and post it...Ryu's gonna be pissed, lol. but he will understand when he is a parent...haha.

THAT's an awesome sparkly king.  Look at that massive tail, and it's so chromy bright even with snow clouds looming and no sun to be seen.  VERY NICE.

Great fish, Jake!  You've been putting in a lot of time down in Homer, so you definitely deserved to stick one.
