Reiterating :::: 0700 shoving off..... so 0600-0630 gearing up ..... LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED pre down launch and per the coast guard, glow sticks don't cut the mustard, an electrically produced light visible from 360* and above the paddlers head. Not sure of the actual regulation but the CG guys here gave me the info

Never having gotten up early enough to need a light I'm curious, are the red and green nav lights on the bow not required also?

Not on a kayak just a visible white light, hit the camping isle at Freddy's grab a camp lantern strap it to a pole or rod and come on out.

Information from the Oregon State Marine Board website says for paddlecraft under 23 ft just a white light is required.  They further say it is adequate to have a flashlight or lantern ready at hand to illuminate in time to avoid a collision.
The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

No bad days nailed it. It's a bit hard to find the right info so I talked to the CG one day just to clarify. A headlamp is a perfectly acceptable light to have on a kayak. I use my phenix 1000 lumen head lamp and a 360degree lamp(not needed) on a flag pole.

I believe it is preferred that we do NOT put red and green lights on the bow. In the dark it may confuse other vessels with the size of our kayaks and raise others' expectations.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Just had my neighbor (retired electrical engineer) help get my waterproof quick connects all soldered together on the yaks and my batteries. Loaded up and ready to roll at "oh dark thirty". See those of you coming in the morning.

Had a blast, it was good getting out on the water after the winter woes. My catch is pictured but had a nice little fight since it felt like a cooper or something else not retainable  I let it go about ten feet down  ::) so I didn't have to break out my descender in the 30 ft of water we were fishing  ;)
Nobaddays, Monkeyfist, SamM, and stingerhook joined in.  Monkeyfist and I dropped pots in close with no retainers SamM and stingerhook dropped out at the wall with 4-7 keepers.
Still a little early for my arthritis to "weather" well. Hope it warms up soon, pain or not it felt good getting back out there even coming back empty handed and 3 jigs lighter.

Sounds like a great day on the water. Nice way to wash the dust off the kayak after a long winter.
