Magic seaweed says Cape Kiwanda surf forecast is 4 ft swells with 2 - 4 mph winds untill 3pm.  I'm still chasing lingcod.  Anybody else interested in a surf launch tomorrow?

That sounds tempting, but work has actually started to stack up at my normally low stress job.  Those lings should be coming in nice and close by now.

Good luck.

Brian, want to share the secret spot where you caught your ling there?  My plan was to hit the area between the cape, buoy, and rock.  Got no ff yet.  Suggestions welcome.

The spot isn't secret, I was pretty much where everyone else was at the tournament.  If I had taken a way point I'd give it to you, but I think I just lucked over some good structure.

When you're not sure where the fish are, try dropping a jig to the bottom and paddling slowly till you see a change in depth and then letting your jig sink.  If you don't get any action, start paddling again until you find another change then repeat.  If you get a bite, work the general vicinity over.

I had an 8 Ling day last spring using this technique.

Hey, Amb.

There's a strong possibility I'll be up for this if I can get my desk cleared this evening. I'll PM you later this evening to let you know for sure and we can trade cell #s.

I have a FF + GPS if anyone has the coordinates.

Magic Seaweed says the wind just got bigger but not enough to stop me from trying yet.  No plan to show up early but low tide hits about 1000.  Sure would be nice for the wind to let up for abit.  Let me know if you're interested.

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR WINDS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM PST THIS
 EVENING

I chose work over NOAA's threat of 25 kt gusts this morning, but AMB headed over anyway. My track record suggests that when I stay home due to weather reports, the ocean is calm with a light breeze. AMB promised a report...

How did the outing go?  Anyone heading out to Cape Kiwanda or other OR coastline for the T-Giving week?

I was committed to the trip and went hoping conditions would be OK.  It was a good day for the surfers.  Wind had a pretty good chop on the swell.  Another day I guess.

Yea, I'm here.  Wish I was there, but you know how it goes.  It was a nice day for a picnic on the beach in the truck.  Don't forget about the Huli Award.  Now that PolePole's qualified this thing could go far!

Aloha guys, I'd posted the info below on a different topic, and you're welcome to join. I figured most folks are spending T-Giving w/their fams, but I have this rare bachelor opportunity..:

"Glad to share!  Not sure I'm ready to brave the PNW, but definitely want to give it a shot - I welcome any help/tips.

Planning on heading out to Pacific City this Wed-Sun in fact.  Wife and kids are out of town so "Yippee!"  Oops, I mean, "gee honey, I sure am gonna miss you and the kids this week...".

I've surfed, raced/paddled outrigger canoes out there out and around the Haystack Rock and even had a whale encounter between the rock and just outside the lands-end shoulder (swam under my OC-1) a few late summers ago.  Always thought the placed looked fishy as hell, but never fished it.  From reading the forum, it sounds like it is indeed.

Here's the tentative game plan:  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Depending on the weather, I'm thinking steamer, booties, neoprene gloves?  Light heavy tackle, 30# mono leader to mooching rig, 4/0, 5/0 Gamakatsu circle hooks? Herring? How hard is it to make bait out there?

Staying at the camping cabins at the RV park and a couple outrigger friends might join me over the weekend.  If nothing else, I'll at least catch a cold one at the brewery.  Any company is welcome!"
