By the time I launched at about 6:30, other boats and kayakers were already heading in with limits. It sounds like people were catching them just west of the rock to start. I headed kind of northwest from the rock and got a fish every 30 minutes until I found them and then I had a hit or fish every 30 seconds until I had my limit. I caught 6. 3 wild, one snagged hatchery and then my two keeper hatchery. I bet I could have caught 30 today. It took me longer than some but I was done fishing by 8:40 😀Awesome day.

It is the start to what will be an amazing year. With the limited fishery happening inside this year I am happy there's plenty of opportunity in the ocean! How many pulls were you having your hits at? Diver or lead?

Awesome they're so shallow again. Although Silvers usually are.

I started out like 15 pulls but shortened it and had way more success. Once a fish stole my herring from my line in about 5 feet of water right after I rebaited before I was even letting line out.

Love that! Also when you're doing a bait check and have one hammer it while you're reeling in

Dude, bottom fishing with my youngest son, he nailed a nice ling and asked me to help. I peddled towards him about 40 yards while reeling real fast to get my lancer jig out of the water (silver/black) as he’s watching my retrieval he says what the fuck was that as a nice salmon breaks pursuit about 2 ft below the surface as we both watch it turn..... I calmly say a salmon. He’s all WTF!!!!! What you do if you hook it... I said land it and hope I can keep it.

The salmon bite continues! My buddy Andrew and me launched around 5:30 or 6:00 followed by Jeff and Chris. We headed south of the rock to drop the crab traps. After dropping the traps we started trolling towards the west side of the rock then continued west. On the way out in about 100 feet of water I got a takedown with 25’ on the line counter or 13 pulls. The bite didn’t stick, but not long after Chris hollered “fish on” he landed a nice coho. We all continued west and at about 120’ Jeff caught a mackerel. When we hit 140’ of water and the fleet of dories I landed a good keeper coho. The four of us continued trolling around the 140’ area for the remaining part of the morning. The fishing was spotty. Jeff and Chris headed back to the rock for some bottom fishing while Andrew and me continued to troll. At that point we each had one coho and Andrew lost a chinook. I wasn’t getting a lot of action with 25 feet out on the line counter and the surface temp was 58 so I dropped down to 30’ with a 10oz cannon ball. It wasn’t long after that I had a great takedown and a good fight on my hands! It was about a 20lb chinook! My leader was pretty long so it made getting the fish up top and in the net a little tricky but I managed to get it in the net! After that I followed Andrew around for about another hour until he landed his second keeper coho and we headed for the crab traps. We ended up with 15 nice keeper crabs! It was a great day!
Thanks to all who have reported on their catches! You gave us the inspiration to get out there!

Good job Casey and buddy.   :banjo:

I need to get my honey-do list done and my kayak fixed so I can join in the fun.

Friday - 1 fish
Saturday - limit before 0730
Sunday - limit before 0720!

One guy on the beach said the kayak guys are outfishing the dory boats. I thought that was funny.

The bite was hot this morning! While we were on the beach getting our kayaks ready the birds were going crazy just northwest of the rock. Lutefisk and a few others launched a few minutes before us. We headed out not far behind them through the birds. There was a lot of slicks, birds, and dirty water on the way out but only one takedown each before we got out to the fleet. As soon as we got out there lutefisk was already landing his second keeper and heading back in! It was around 7:00 at the latest. The action was hot out there! I was trolling fast with 36 feet of line out on the counter an inline flasher and 10ozs of lead. Andrew was trolling a little slower and not as deep with a 360 flasher. We both caught a few natives while working towards our limits. By 8:30 we both had our limits and headed back in to hang out with our families on the beach for the rest of the day.
It was an amazing weekend. It’s a total bummer that it’s back to the grind tomorrow. I’ll be dreaming about salmon fishing all week long!
