I'm planning to take advantage of the decent weather forecasted for this weekend. A couple of possibilities are:

  • Drop shotting small grubs for yellow perch at Goodwin. This is a popular winter technique on Lake Washington, and I've always thought it should work at Goodwin.
  • Also might try Lake Martha (Warm Beach area [a couple of miles from Goodwin]). A friend at work has been catching big (20"+) cutthroat on his flyrod there. It's not easy fishing, but he's C&R'd at least one quality fish per visit. There are also big browns in Martha.

Anyone interested? I'm open to other suggestions too...just gotta get out there!!

If I can get some time out this weekend I'm looking to slay as well. Dinos? Tides look bad this weekend... >:(  Maybe downrigger trolling for blackmouth? Steel?

If I didn't already have a commitment to Janni's  grandma, in PDX, I'd jump on it.

Zee- can you say "self-propelled bio-hazard accumulator"? >:D :o ::)

yessnoo, there are 2 Marthas in Snohomish County. The one in the Alderwood Manor area (near Lynnwood) is April- Oct. The one up near Stanwood, that I think Noggin Yakker is talking about, is open year-round.

Z,
Where are you thinking of going for BMs or Steel?
Looking ahead, let's nail down a weekend with good tides for targeting dinos. I've been gathering some great info about an area up my way. I'm reluctant to share this info in an open forum, but PM me your e-mail and I'll provide more details.

yessno,
PS is correct. I'm referring to Lake Martha near Stanwood.
Z's suggestions (BM or Steel) are tempting, but my yak isn't yet rigged for river or downrigger fishing. Plus, I don't think I have the skills needed to safely paddle in metalhead water (so far, the slow moving currents of Rufus Woods are my only experience in flowing water).
Do you think you might want to try Goodwin &/or Martha? It's a bit of a trek from Seattle, but shouldn't be too bad on a Sat or Sun.

Because we don't want you to know about it.   >:D

Just kidding ... it is the time honored tradition amongst fishermen that some things are just secrets.

As far as I know, Puget Sound dinos are not well studied. I have no idea how abundant (or not) they are. I've heard that they are migratory, but I have no idea how far they range, and I'm not sure that anyone else knows, either. They may be susceptible to pretty low levels of pressure. They are bottom feeders that frequent estuaries and Puget Sound does have a bunch of degraded areas. Commencement Bay, Elliott Bay, and Port Susan have a lot of industrial contaminants and Bellingham Bay also has high levels of naturally occurring mercury. Hence my term, "self-propelled bio-hazard accumulator".

Cool, looking forward to meeting you. From W Seattle it should take you less than an hour to get to the Smokey Pt exit (assuming the traffic is light). I'll give you a call tomorrow to nail down the details.

Anyone else want to join us?

I've got a pass from the Secretary of Domestic Affairs for Sunday.  Post up the time and location (ie: which lake/launch) and I'll be there.
