I know the Coastal communities may be intolerant of us and is preventing people fro using their property to launch at this time but, as someone with an extensive background in the sciences - particularly microbiology- I saw this pandemic coming back in January and I do not blame the coastal folks for wanting us to stay away.

On Monday there were 4 trucks in the Lowes' parking lot in McMinnville with business logos on them that read 'Lincoln City' or 'Lincoln County'.  Their neighbors will be the ones to bring it to them not the tourists.  They need to lock the gate in both directions.

I don't disagree that it's a two-way street, but the South Beach parking lot on a spring all-depth halibut day is pretty intense with out-of-towners.

There is no reason for folks from PDX to travel far to fish. The state is keeping a good number of access points open and in my experience from the last few weeks people are doing a good job of distancing while putting in and taking out.

I am staying very close to where I live and lucky to live where I do and have had some success.

I would have LOVED to be on the ocean with recent conditions, but that can wait.

If we are smart we will be able to continue to get the needed time on the water.

Gold Beach has a nice new hospital, that trip is cut in half, ambulance bill probably only $5k. Pocket change.

You mean the hospital that just laid off 200-some employees, including doctors and nursing staff?  The one with two functioning ventilators?  That one?
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

So you do know it!

We have had hundreds of hospital layoffs in our coastal burg too.  It’s baffling.

It's almost as if a blanket ban/stop to all elective surgeries (read $$$$$$$ money makers for hospitals) across the country has had the result of Doctors and nurses being laid off when they were the ones we were most trying to protect. It's happening across the country and we're effectively putting the **potential** patients above the current needs of those who need surgeries. My mother in law had total knee replacement scheduled for April 2nd at Kaiser here in PDX and was told it was "elective" despite the fact that she's now essentially wheelchair bound now due to the pain in the knee.

Some perspective.
Having worked at a hospital in Salem for 5 years and my SO is an hospital executive for another large hospital system, we discuss this a fair bit.
The mandatory absence level between the last pay period and this one has gone up 60%
Yes 6 0f 10 employees required to take PTO or just not get paid if they have no PTO.
Not everyone at a hospital works a ward, if you're not treating CV patients, you may not have any work to do.
The hospitals are bleeding money hand over fist, as are every medical clinic not seeing patients.
Some will not recover, thanks Brown for destroying another part of the economy.
1736 cases in Oregon this morning according to the Oregonian, 64 deaths.
In 2018 Oregon reported 36,191 deaths from all reasons.
Call me when the numbers start making sense.
Overblown and overplayed by the media in their incessant need for advertising revenue and amplified by bureaucrats looking to increase and consolidate power.
Destroy the economy to save the people.
Same stupid shit I heard about Viet Nam, got to destroy the village to save it.
Break out the zippos boys, we're going to have a party.

And 14 of those deaths in ONE facility. Over half total deaths from senior care or assisted living centers.

In other news, coronavirus is now the leading cause of death in the United States.  Those stats don't sound like media hype to me.

More perspective:
Deaths from all reasons don't grow at an exponential rate.
F the economy.  I'd rather my family and friends all survive.

That assumes that the economy in the toilet doesn’t also cause preventable deaths. It does. Quantifying it is difficult but it is not insignificant.

That's true, it does. Quantifying is difficult. But can one say that those deaths would rise at an exponential rate?
We have a known cause of deaths, right now, easily attributed, that is growing at an exponential rate. It was doubling approximately 2-3 days.  We, as a country, have started to bend that curve, thankfully.  Oregon has been doing better than most all sates in the country, but our country is very interconnected so looking at this as though we are an island is pointless.
4,591 reported deaths. Yesterday, in America, alone.
Left unchecked, the damage to the economy from this virus would be far, far worse than it would be under measures that may seem heavy handed at the moment.

I don’t find that argument convincing without some quantification.

I also think it’s fair to weight different lives different in the calculus. The suicide of a 20 year old with a life expectancy off another 60 years is certainly worth more than the septuagenarian with a life expectancy of 6 years. Is it 10:1?  Is this calculus not socially acceptable or politically correct?  It’s certainly worth considering.

Sadly we do have some numbers for such a thing, and 2008/2009 wasn't even a blip on the radar compared to this thing from a job loss and economic standpoint. I guess those $1,200 checks will surely help.
