Sounds like a good, measured action.  I was out at Netarts Bay this morning in my kayak.   There were a few people out clamming, well spaced apart.  One powerboat came out just as I was pulling up on the beach, clearly ignored the ramp closure.  Going to be interesting how this weekend goes with visitors.
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

I am a California resident who spends a lot of time in Oregon.  I understand why Oregon made this decision and it’s a domino effect from the total Washington closure. I feel like I’m just collateral damage in this, and while it sucks for people like me and other border area Californians in relatively unpopulated areas of southern Oregon and Northern California, there isn’t really any other way to do it and exclude the Washingtonians. Same goes for my dad, who lives in Payette Idaho.  Thankfully we both have ample opportunities on our sides of the border.

Way to go crash!  No wonder I'll occasionally admit I met you once upon a time.

I was told by a friend that 50%+ of the boats fishing the Multonomah channel for spring chinook have Washington State tags.... and that is probably the most politically charged fishery in the state (?).

I have to chime in that I work in Oregon, but live in Washington, 10 minutes from the Columbia river.  So I pay Oregon state taxes.  And I pay almost $300 for my Oregon license every year (which given how much tax money I pay, also seems a bit unfair).  And so this is frustrating.  As is being considered an outsider Washingtonian.   :-\  Half of all my regular fishing happens in the state of Oregon!
That being said, I am more frustrated with Washington than with Oregon, as I understand Oregons response to the WDFW decision.

It is easy to see why rivers are often made political boundaries - because the boundaries are (relatively) easier to control, or defend in case of war, but it sure sucks for every day life because river banks are where people tend to want to live - both river banks. The people on both sides of a river have more in common than people two valleys apart.

Of course, as crash points out, even non-river boundaries cause difficulties for people who live near them.

Just a bit more information. You can still fish/hunt in OR if you've got a non-resident license as long as you have a Oregon address. Which is good for me as I just moved to the area. I don't plan on traveling to fish (but dang do I want to), but knowing that I can still fish nearby helps my mental health.

I haven't done much research but here is the article where I got that info

Guess that’s changed since I had my accident, 3 guys that worked at the garbage company I did all lived in Vancouver, non of them had state taxes taken out, bought all there supplies in Oregon and only paid taxes on property and there cars.. besides a few minimum things. They always tried to talk us Oregon guys into moving up there.

Hmmm... I have been here 18 years and all my co-workers that live in Washington have always had to pay Oregon taxes.  Your co-workers must have had a good shady accountant. ;)  My co-workers bitch about it and I tell them they should just move to Oregon and stop bitching, or find a job in Washington.  Both are simple solutions especially since they all transferred from other states and knew that in advance.  What is funny is now our place of employment is even closer to Washington (by the airport) and they bitch even more about how bad traffic is trying to get off Airport Way onto the I-205.  I laugh everyday at their misfortune as I drive by the line of traffic as I get on 205 south. They were warned.  I can get home quicker to my SW PDX metro suburb than they can get to Camas. Again, I remind them that life is all about choices, and they chose poorly. :)

I used to work with a guy that lived in the Couv and worked at Intel in Oregon.  He didn't like it when I suggested that both the I-5 and I-205 should be changed to toll bridges.  Oregon gets the money one direction, and Washington gets the money from the other direction.  Easy peasy.  Money would only be spent on the state road/bridge maintenence and repairs and not nothing else.

He didn't feel that it was "fair" that he would have to pay both directions every day.  I asked him "who do you think puts the most wear and tear on these bridges/roads, you or me"?  I would happily pay the toll the few times a year that I cross with bridge, rightfully so.  That and ban the freaking studded tires already!  Seriously!

I did read yesterday that ODFW is looking at refunding non resident licenses if this keeps going.
The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.
