I will be heading out to Pacific City to pick up where Captain Redbeard left off. Leaving Wednesday evening from The Gorge and will try and sleep in my truck unless someone near PC has a driveway where I can sleep for the night.

I'm hoping to get on the water by 6 a.m., drop a crab pot and then head to a couple of spots past Haystack. This is an open invite. I am bringing my newly minted halibut harpoon just in case. If I don't catch a halibut, I may fish Friday as well. Swells and wind look good both days and I have my Hobie Sidekicks as back-up. I will be on channel 69 on the water on my gray Hobie Revo, the "Ms. Salma" and wearing an unGodly bright orange hat...

Hope to see you there!

I'm about 50/50 for Thursday. If I'm out there I'll probably be in my red Oasis with my daughter. I'm sure if the forecast sticks there will be quite a few folks out there, even on a weekday. Given the relatively low wind all day I may not get there at the crack of dawn. Good luck, keep safe, take pictures!

My wife and I will be there tomorrow as well. Early launch (6 am or before) as we have limited time tomorrow to fish (and crab).

Probably back at it on Saturday.

Saturday is looking much better than tomorrow.
Tomorrow you have 4'+ swell and a light south wind at right angles to the swell.
Saturday it drops to just over 3' the wind is from the NW and negligible until noon.

I'll fish Depoe tomorrow, conditions are almost the same as PC, go early and get off the water if the south winds get bad.
Saturday I'll be at PC, need another crab fix.

I went to PC today. Got a limit of lingcod and rockfish (including 1 cabezon). It was a complete zoo on the beach leaving. No way I'm going to deal with that this weekend. Swell was a little bigger than I expected, but conditions were great. Rockfish bite was really slow until I put on some all white jigs, and then got all of them in about a half hour. They were also pretty high up. I think I hooked them all between 20 and 40 feet.

Thanks for the report. Nice work on the limits of lingcod and rockfish!

Did you see or hear of any salmon being caught in the vicinity of the rock?

If it already was a zoo today then it will be a total s-show on Saturday for sure.....(but i plan on going anyways).

Thanks.

Phew! Just got back myself from a good 7 hour soak at P.C. Didn't find any halibut, but I did bring back two fairly good sized Lings and a Black Rockfish I decided to take along for the ride. Got on the water around 6 a.m. and I gotta say, as many times as I've been out, I still need to work on my speed when it comes to getting everything squared away. I thought I did, but it still took my an hour before I was able to get on the water. Fiddling with this, fiddling with that...

I dropped my modified Danielson crab trap (now an 18"x18") in about 50 FOW and had 5 waiting for me in the trap when I got back. Much easier to haul, drop and lift than the full sized one. I'm going to change another of my pots too in the next day or so.

My fail today (although it wasn't a halibut) was my letting go a MONSTER Vermillion Rockfish. I thought it was a Yelloweye, but when I checked the ODFW handout (after letting it go), sure enough! It wasn't a yelloweye. I had released one earlier in the day. The Vermillion looked like a great big goldfish. Sigh... At least it wasn't a halibut!

There were some MONSTER bait balls out there just north of the rock, a lot of dory boats too just following them. If I had to do it all over again, I would have followed them sooner. Also lost a lot of jigging set ups. Davey Jones' Locker probably needed to expand a little after taking some of my gear.

I didn't hear of any salmon being caught, but that doesn't mean they weren't. I talked to a couple in an inflatable boat who said they hadn't heard of anyone catching any. And Sweet, Baby Cheeses, it was a madhouse on the beach when I got back. I would have stayed another day, but I don't want to have to contend with the masses over the weekend. The traffic through Portland to Hood River was bad enough. Fire and Rescue was on scene as someone needed help near the cliffs off of the big sand dune. It looked like they were looking at (at least) temporarily closing the beach when I got out of there.

Good luck to anyone going out in the next few days. Keep your mitts off of my fish - they're clearly marked.

I didn't see any signs of salmon being caught. I know someone who went to Depoe Bay today in a boat and said it was super slow there too.

I did mark a few singletons north of the rock at 30 to 40 feet in about 80+ FOW...
