They don't cost much, might as well try one.

Paul- I used the extension chord wrap for 5 years without breakage and it doesnt feel week.  Just head to home depoe and feel them out.  I like the ones with the black handle you can hold and it allows it to freely unspool.

I went crabbing on a friends boat and bought 2 scotty trap ease , one for him and one for my kayak. On the boat it was a bit squirrely kept flexing and twisting a bit. I haven’t tried it on the kayak yet. I will say it made it significantly easier to haul the traps up on his boat. My back felt way better than trying to deadlift from the back of his boat.

That’s good to know. I’m definitely interested in it, thanks for the info.

I just ordered a trap ease.
I figured it'd be good for my anchor as well as traps.
Was using a 10# pyramid anchor around Swan last week. Tried a bunch of different spots, so a lot of  excercise pulling it out of the mud and back up to the boat.
Wasn't terribly hard pulling up, but easier would be better!
If I had actually caught some dinos, my arms might have been really tired!
Will give a report after I get it and use it.
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Awesome, I’m looking for some real reviews before I buy one.

Has anybody tried the Scotty trap ease?

Ive used the trap ease mostly for kayak shrimping at depths > 250 feet. It’s better than nothing, but I still find myself trying to engineer something better and preferably powered.

I  have a Scotty trap ease and I'm not 100% on it yet.
The base fits tightly, as it should, the post is adjustable for angle.
The issue is the head with the roller is not fixed, it rotates back and forth about 45 degrees.
Pulls straight and then flops over 45 and you're pulling against the side of the roller.
About to break out the drill and make it stay where I want.

Got mine in the mail yesterday.
I had wondered a bit about the head pivoting like that.
Scotty lists it as a feature, and I figured if there was a bit of chop, the pivot just helped keep the rope on there.
Sounds like it doesn't tho....
Not sure when I'll be on the water anchoring or crabbing, but will post about it when I do.

For those of us not planning to attend the Sportsmans Show,  is there an alternative plan being developed for pickup?
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

Yes - I'm going to pick up a bunch of traps to distribute south. Maybe I could meet you in Albany on my way back to Eugene from PDX. Not sure yet which day, but I'll let everybody know soon.
Here's the NWKA folks I have in the South Valley:
SD2OR - Monmouth
alpalmer - Albany
MonkeyFist - Corvallis
Larry_Mayll_HR - Corvallis
Farmbum - Eugene

Thanks Paul,  I'm actually out at Netarts this winter but I can meetup where ever.  If there are others out here near Tillamook, perhaps I could pickup for a group or I can come to Monmouth and meet there and limit the number of stops you make.

T Coastal is in Tillamook. Maybe a bunch of us could meet up in Depoe Bay for a fishing day.
