I've been wanting to buy a couple of the McKay Kayak Crabber Crab Pots - (12 x 12 x 24). But, I didn't want to pay shipping, so I contacted them and asked if they are coming down to the PNWSS at the end of March. They said yes they were. The price listed on their website is $45, but they stated it will soon increase due to rising prices on wire and clips. So I asked what kind of pricing could they do for us on a group buy if I came out to the Expo Center and picked them up. They said they could do around $40 each if we bought 12-18 traps, maybe a little less if we order more? I know a couple of people that have some interest, so I thought I would run it up the flagpole and see if any NWKA'ers are interested?

We'll have to work out the distribution details later, but I don't see it being as big an obstacle as it might have been last year with everyone locked down in OR/WA.

I'd like to get a couple Mckay Kayak Crabber traps also. I shared this on the Coos Kayak Fishing FB page.
MCkay Shrimp and Crab Gear is a great sponsor of the ORC and have one designed for Kayaks.

I used it at PC recently and it easily fits way more than a limit of large ocean crab in it and is much easier to get in the kayak.  It also fits nicely in the tank well of a Hobie Revo (or probabaly any kayak) so there was no need for me to bungie it down while going through the surf like I have to do with the Danielsons.

I would be interested in buying two (2).

I own two already but am tempted by the offer. I will keep it in mind and ask a few buddies if they're interested.

29 people on the list so far for a total of 45 crab traps. Please message me with full name & email address. That's easiest way for me to keep you all updated on the McKay Kayak Crabber traps. Thanks

I made a spool out of an old cutting board so I can adjust the scope of the rope to depth. The spool is attached just below the floats. I cut & drilled slowly so as not to crack the plastic, then finished the holes with a wide blade soldering iron. About 50' of sinking line.

Thanks for sharing the idea.  What would we do without cutting boards for raw materials on various projects......

I keep a supply of various thicknesses and sizes out in the shop that I have ordered online or at the local warehouse.  The big ones are pretty cheap and easy to cut to size.  Even the scraps from larger projects come in handy now and then.

Thanks for the inspiration! I looking at your setup, it hit me that the light weight, simple extension cord wrap frames would be ideal for crab pot rope. Not exactly sure how I will rig it up, but guessing very similar to what you have. Will let folk know if it works out  :)

I tried that once. It broke the first time out. I'm keeping my eye open for one that's more heavy duty.

We've got 50 traps ordered. I'll send out a group email when we get a firm price & decide how to handle the payments & distribution.
