Does anybody know of any local fishing shops that sell weedless football jigs? I'm looking for at least 3/4 oz. size, 1 oz. or 1 1/4 oz. size would be ideal. The ones that Trix Jetty Worms are made of is what I'm looking for to be honest. Painted/non-painted doesn't really matter for me. I've found some online places that have them, but 3/4oz. is the heaviest size I've seen. Any help would be much appreciated!

I've yet to find any place that sells football jigs larger than 3.4 oz. in the NW. Best bet is online as there's no demand for jigs that big in these parts.

Jay had some of those trix jetty things when he came down to fish the salt. How long did it take for it to get hung up Jay, 10 minutes?

So you think a weed guard is gonna keep it from snagging huh? I guess you never snag right? That rig's caught me tons of rockfish. I wouldn't be so fast to talk smak.

I think those weed guards only help if you're trying not to snag up in the kelp. If you're snagging on a rocky bottom, they probably don't help as much as it's not the actual hook that snags up in the rocks.  It's the jig itself getting wedged.

I used to whip a thick piece of mono loop to the hook right behind the jig head facing forward.  You could then bend this back and catch it on the barb.  Et voila!!!  Home made weed guard.  That was back when I was a kid and had time to do crazy things like this.

That's pretty much what I am going for. I want to be able to fish in and around kelp patches without snaggin salad all day. True about the rocky bottoms, in fact, those would probably be really crummy on a rocky bottom because the head is so wide.

How would you know if they're a waste of money if you haven't tried them out? You catch a ton of rockies on the plain ol' but maybe you'd catch bigger w/ something different. Open you mind and try something new.

Actually no, they don't snag so badly. They're made for walking down rocky jetties. I've been using these jigs for 3+ years and have snagged but have yet to lose one in the rocks. Funny how there's so much conjecture out here w/o anyone actually giving them a try. :P

A lot of lures are lost rockfishing because people don't know how to get unsnagged properly.

Brian, seriously you can't go saying this without backing it with some instruction, a link or something that will actually help a guy.
Otherwise your comment is as useful as the package that the jig came in.   :tard:

Patience and not reefing on it hard when you snag. Slack the line and gently jig it from many different directions, normally the opposite direction of the drift will many times come loose
