Damnit Demon ... couldn't you wait until I had a few more takers on my beer bet?   ;)

BTW, the 15 limit applies to greenling too ...

-Allen

Okay, when we eventually meet, I'll buy you a beer.

Yay! Never more happy to lose a bet! Next event we both attend, I'll bring a few of your choice!

Nice clarification. I guess it was the distinction between "bottomfish" and "all other species" that had me turned around.  Personally, I don't like the way the rules pamphlet requires cross referencing between sections without referring these sections to each other.  It wouldn't be difficult to have a small text reference right after the section title like this:

BOTTOMFISH (see pg. 22 for definition)

That too much to ask WDFW?  Hmmmm????  :tard:

Wish I would have known this before I went out Sunday morning.  I interpreted it as a limit of 2, and so I kept only 2.  I must have caught well over 30 of the little buggers in about 5hrs. of fishing off of picnic point. I'd be up for another trip round of that if anybody is interested.

i usually C&R and then only keep one or two to take home....i agree that the rules are WAY TOO CONFUSING...i would suggest going to a ONE fish limit per day per species and unlimited C&R...i would rather have some simple, restrictive, regs and make sure my grand kids have something to fish for...i really cannot see the purpose of taking 15 bottom fish home...or 6 salmon...

Well Coon Ass and myself hit 57 of the little buggers on 4 hours and kept 2 each,  I am glad you can keep more that two as there are six of us in my house so one each is good for dinner. as I was fishing I was thinking why only two if there are so many.

Well that is easy for those of us that live by the coast to say.......but some poor shmuck that drives all the way over from Idaho for one fishing trip might rethink their plans if they are not going to get enough to fill the freezer

I am planning an early morning launch from Richmond Beach tomorrow, Wednesday.  Low tide is at 9am so I plan to fish a few hours around the slack.  About 1/4 mile offshore depth it is about 100'.  It's a relatively protected area, a mile from the house, and seems a good spot to bust my salt cherry.  I plan on anchoring, and jigging with plastic.

I've never launched from Richmond Beach but have been there many times.  Beach access is good right at the end of the walkway, but the trip back to the truck is all uphill.

What were you using for bait?

Careful tomorrow ...

Tonight:  NNW wind 12 to 17 kt becoming N 5 to 10 kt after midnight. Mostly clear. Wind waves 3 ft subsiding to 1 ft or less.

Wednesday: NE wind 6 to 11 kt becoming NNW 13 to 18 kt in the afternoon. Sunny. Wind waves 1 ft or less building to 3 ft.

Wednesday Night: NNW wind 12 to 17 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt after midnight. Partly cloudy. Wind waves 3 ft subsiding to 1 ft or less.

Also, I don't think you want to anchor, at least not at 100'.   Nothing wrong with drifting for the flatfish, you'll be able to do a little searching too.  And don't shy away from fishing shallower.  You can catch them all the way into shore ...

Thanks for getting the answer on this D.

About 1/4 mile offshore depth it is about 100'.

FYI You can catch them in 15' FOW.

I was catching them from 10' to 100' with the same consistency.  I wouldn't anchor up either.  Let us know how you do.

When I started catching them the other day there is no way i could have found them if i didn't know that area or just happen to drift over them...(its like there in patches)  I would drift from one area to the next catching fish then get out of them then in them again then pedal back to the top and start again...they were probably only in 50ish feet of water (i'm guess because i had no fish finder and i wasn't counting)

Busted my salt cherry yesterday and launched solo from Richmond Beach about 8am.  A buddy was supposed to meet me later.  The launch was easy, but later, the trip back up to the parking lot was tough.  The wind was calm and the water fairly flat.   Paddled out about 1/4 mile and dropped anchor in about 80 feet of water.  Immediately pulled up anchor and moved in a 100 yards or so, then dropped anchor in abut 50 feet of water.  The anchor trolley and bsteves anchor system worked perfectly.  Rigged up and dropped a curly tail on a 2 oz. jig.  Could feel critters hitting the bait, then hooked up.  Flounder.  In a short while I rigged with a 1 oz jig and a 1 oz weight off the swivel and started hauling them in.  By 11, when my buddy showed up I had about 10, and had thrown back a bunch.  He tied up his sea kayak to my anchor buoy and we both kept hauling them in.  At one point he drift fished south and kept catching all the way to the beach.  Then we hooked up again and kept fishing.  At 2PM we thought we had 30 in the bag, 10-14", and called it a day.  We actually had 28 in the bag though probably boated 40.  They all looked like starry flounders, and they were hitting virtually anything, from curly tails to candlefish jigs.

There were two of us for the trip back up to parking from the beach.  I had a cart and the heavier rigged boat.  I am glad I didn't have to make it up the hill alone.  He did not have a cart, but he had almost no gear in a glass boat so we carried it.  I'd suggest not launching from Richmond Beach alone.

Not much meat on a 14" flounder.

I generally don't post photos of my face, but this also shows how far out from the beach I was.

The Olympus Stylus 550 WP takes pretty crappy photos.  Seems the focus function is not very accurate, and the brightness dynamic range is too narrow.  I can probably expand the brightness dynamic range from camera settings.
