Myself and NogginYakker hit the road for some dinos today and had the most unbelievable day. Between the two of us, hooked up with 9 dinos w/ him going home w/ a right in the slot keeper and me taking my personal best... oversize......

Further pics and report later. I'm beat.

Ok I think my brain's had enough time to digest it all so here goes.

NY was ahead of me and anchored up first while I dealt with some gear. He was pretty far away and I hadn't noticed whether he'd anchored up or not but when I looked he was still moving. Then changing direction. Then changing direction again... oh crap, he's on a slayride!! I put all my crap down and jump on the pedals blasting 7 mph. As I start to get closer to the spot I can see him absolutely hauling ass, he's on a monster. My phone goes off. My VHF wasn't on so sure it was NY calling for an assist. Just as I get in shouting distance he stops and starts coming back to the spot shaking his head. Unbuttoned. He's telling me it was a monster and I didn't question it by the speed he was moving. After we both anchored up and his nerves settled we went over strategies on how to deal w/ a dino that big. 15 min later I feel some action on my bait, it's a dino and as I slam the hookset it rips right through my drag and my heavy weight Loomis mooching rod is taco'd. I try and keep it all together and when I reach back to release my anchor it hits the surface and starts thrashing and rolling. It's also F'n huuuuuge. I finally get the anchor released and the dino starts thrashing again and POP! Heartbroken, I reel in my slack line when I realize, there's no weight. It actually broke off. :confused4:

I paddled back and anchor up again shaking from the left over adrenaline. I look at NY and he's like yeah I wasn't F'n around, they're monsters. Still buzzing I re-bait and chuck it to the same place. Not 5 min. later there's another and it's bigger. I pull the anchor right away and get the hookset. It's coming towards me so I'm burning line in when it jumps not 4 feet from the kayak. I can't explain how insane that moment was. This was the biggest dino I'd ever had on a line and it was above my head, it's body torqued frozen in time. It was like a front row personal Shamu show. When it hits it totally drenches me and I'm scrambling to take in the slack line. I finally get the line taught when it takes off at the surface and proceeds to completely soak me again just ripping through my drag like it's nothing. Blown away by what just happened I get the line taught and sit back in my seat just slayriding trying to recollect myself.

I go back and forth and the fish makes run after run. I get it close, it takes off, it dives, it surfaces, and dives again. After about 30 min I can see the fish is wearing out and the tell tale bubbles come. But that's not it. The dino continues to tow me around like it's towing an empty 2 liter bottle. As it's tiring I bring it up and when it breaks the surface my eyes damn near fall out of my head. It's nose is even w/ my bow and the tail is right at the b on Hobie logo right next to me. I'm using the Adventure and it's 16' long. I keep going over what to do next when I see a big flash of white. It's rolling and done. NY comes along for the assist and thank god he did. There was no way I could handle this fish on my own.

As I get it's head to the surface NY gets a glove on and put his hand in it's mouth W/ plenty of room to spare. :confused2: I get my hand in there and he lets go and I get to feel the weight of this sucker. Unreal is all I can say. NY snaps a few pics and somehow I say to NY "you think it's legal?" He gives me this look and goes no way! After realizing the adrenalin had taken over and I was just babbling I thought to try and get a measure on it. It was just too big though and we couldn't handle the fish so released it and it swam away.

We paddle back to our anchor spot which is like 1/4 mile away now and get back to fishing. 2 minutes later NY's hooked up again and it's towin' him. I hoot and 5 mins later I'm on again! Dino double! And these are no shakers. I lose mine after 5 or so minutes and NY comes back w/ a nice keeper. Hoping to get a keeper I keep fishing but being worn out from the first and these fish being such high caliber I hook 3 more fish but I just can't keep the barbless hooks set. So we called it a day.

I got home wondering what the measure is from the bow to the b in the Hobie logo and it measures out to 84" which estimates to around 181 pounds by the B. C. Frasier River White Sturgeon study program. (http://www.hotshotguide.com/Sturgeon_Weight_calculator.htm) Needless to say that's my personal best. :headbang:

Here's NY's beauty keeper.

NY got pics of my fish so I'll get them up later.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

I've heard about this dino action going on around my place and it's time I give it a go!  Good job guys you seemed to have mastered the art, a new dino fisher would appreciate some advice.

I guess you've answered the question every PB'er asks.  "What are you going to do when you hook into a big one huh?"  Now you can just smile and answer.  "Um...catch him."  Way to go Zee.
