I lead the first (for me) "Intro to Surf Zone for Kayak Fisherman" yesterday at the Oregon Coast. Zero to hero in 6 hours. Everyone did great and was able to get in and get out through 5-6ft break. Practiced landings under control and surfing among other things and had a blast with the group. The other coach and I played in some 8-11ft break, but it was obviously not appropriate for the students on an intro class.

One thing I learned is that the OK Scrambler XT is a surfing machine, and I kind of want one now just for surf. The rockered bow on this boat made it THE surf champ of the day. The T-15, Native Mantaray 12, and Scupper Pro surf like pigs. No rocker in the bow makes them just plow and broach to the point that most of the time you end up side surfing. The T-15 however was able to hold it's line and come in under control quite well due to the longer length and barge-like nature of this boat. The Scupper Pro was quite difficult to hold a line while surfing if not set up perfectly. Once it started to broach, it was difficult to correct. To it's defense, it was quite stable side surfing. The Mantaray was maneuverable at 12 ft, but the lack of bow rocker made it broach quite easy. All of these boats would benefit from a hull with a fine keel line and a little more bow rocker.

I didn't see what beach you're on and didn't recognize it.  Where were you?
