The news blips I read, say that the warmer water is getting closer to shore and this appears to hold dolphins and more seals, thus atracting sharks.     Anyone taking this to heart and going to stay off the water or, just take their chances?

Then someone drags in a 12' GW out of Depoe.  Not sure how far out this feller was snagged though.

I just saw the news on Fox12 this morning.  Nice pic of the great white.  Interesting it was hauled up entangled in a crab pot.  Maybe it got tangled after going after sealion, who was going after a crab pot?

White sharks in Oregon?  :o

Just a fact of life.....

From what I hear, around Depoe Bay, their numbers go up and they get really close to shore around the first couple weeks of september :o ;)

As fall approaches you start to see more of them.  The smaller GWS come in for the salmon starting head up the rivers. The larger ones come in for the sea lions that are there for the salmon.  So if your interested in meeting the landlord your best bet is when the salmon start heading in near the mouths of their spawning rivers.

That's a beautiful shark and real shame it had to die.  I wonder if it would've been different had they freed it and left at sea?  I know I'd be scared as hell hauling in a protected endangered species.  Even if i didn't target and kill it on purpose.

I can remember 1 time out at the rock pile on a clear day we were bleeding out halibut.  And a good sized shark swam under the boat.  It was enough to turn my dad white on a 23foot C-Dory he was atleast half the length of the boat.  Bigger than any salmon or blue shark I'd ever seen out there by far and wide as hell.  Watching my uncle frantically reeling up his halibut line to try and just hook it for the hell of it was hilarious.  When he got up about 3/4 of the way up a nice chinook took the line and was running like hell.  lol he so thought he had that GW.  Just beautiful animals though I would love to see one swim by while in my kayak.

Yep, judging by the hype on Fox 12, it seems that people are kinda freaking out about it.  I just hope it doesn't lead to anything that could cause further harm to the shark population.  Truly a beautiful animal, and a bummer that it got killed in such a way.

Yeah too bad about that. Shark looked to be in great condition. Looks too be on the juvenile side still. "Sprang to life almost biting someone." I bet it twitched..

What Spot said. They are a part of our landscape. They're out there everyday. And there's plenty of other critters out there that are better to munch on than a big piece of tupperware. I wouldn't sweat it.

It's sad they're killing them. When I lived in Humboldt there was a guy in a PB that would fill wetsuit legs with ground pork and bait them to the surface when they would come in the Mad River Estuary....stupid.

This means to me that the salmon are cycling in the river mouths and estuaries. I'm heading to the coast this weekend!

I was fishing for mackerel to use as bait when an 8-10' whitey swam right under my kayak. Strange feeling of fear and fascination. Makos were fairly common, that's the only time I've seen a great white (other than on PBS).

I've heard that too. Usually they are thickest around the 12th of September  >:D

Don't listen to this dude. He's just trying to rig the results of the tourney in his favor. He wants total domination of all NWKA tournaments. Don't give in to this megalomaniac's feeble attempts!! He must be stopped at all costs. All costs I say!!!  ;D

Who would do such a thing? ;D  I swear, sharks everywhere! Not even safe to walk the beach, let alone paddle offshore and fish ;D  Best and safest would be for everyone to steer clear of the ocean in September  and continue working out the intricacies of how to pee while out on their yak ;D

And, when you see me hauling in those GIANT lings, think twice before paddling over to my honey hole.  Remember, I bleed my fish out thru the skupper holes.   ;D
