I'm a member of the New Zealand kayak fishing forum and this kayak has been a hot topic for a couple weeks. Pics just came out and it's interesting to say the least. I like it, but think there's more that I dislike about it. Check out the pics (page 1 and 3). I think we could easily see something similar here in the future.

PS: this is the closest thing they have to our Tridents...

They have Tridents there, it must be coming this way at some point. That thing looks bad ass. all of my complaints in the trident series have been addressed. I want to paddle one. perimeter lines, dryer secure hatches, hull design........ 8)

29" is still allot of beam I guess, but the hull looks way better than previous version.

I'd take it over my 34" Big Game  ;D

This looks awesome. Now it's time to fish...

I actually like this new design.  Freaking huge tank well!!   :o

I'd have to see the rod tube they are talking about, and how much trouble it is to slip fat rods with bulky reels into the pod.
The lid and the idea of flipping it over, I'm not really in love with.  I think if I were to land one of these new yaks, I'd probably toss the factory lid in favor of a homebuilt jobber with a built in sonar shield.  Flip up a mini lid, that would house a sealed area to stow the FF/GPS body.  It would all depend on how wide that new pod opening is, as to how to go about it.

I likey!!!  Where can I win one of these?   ;D

Looks like they added a skid plate on the keel.  I'd love to give one a paddle to see how the new hull design works.

I'm with Craig on the RodPod rebuild.  The new lid DID give me some great ideas though.  I don't think the Ultra lid will seal any better than the Trident lid (note, no Tridents in New Zealand.  Their Prowler Ultra is similar to our older non-Trident Prowler http://www.oceankayak.co.nz/catalog.php?func=14&DPT=c&DCI=8&S=3c04fb0634f82402a31e3598c501856e) and I have concerns with that.  It is nice, however, if the lid does leak, it won't be filling your hull with water.

I thought this new Ultra had a space for the Plano box, but I guess its actually a live well. I personally don't like either option, and have been having a tough time getting used to the Plano box behind me.  I'd rather have a space for an open crate.

The live well design is kinda goofy in my opinion.  I do like the way it will stow the hand bilge pump though.  That tank well looks like it could almost fit two big milk crates back there.  ;D

I thought it had VERY similar proportions as a 75lb halibut...

Probably need to mount a gun rack with your choice of gun.  Would need something to get that 75lb hali to sit still back there.  ;D

From what I remember OK NZ has their own molds and models. They had a version of the Prowler that wasn't a Trident before the US. It wasn't the same but looked to be it's predecessor.

The rod pod looks interesting. The concept is really nice and would like to see it all geared up with a ff and rod storage. The spot behind the seat looks nice. If it fits a nice tackle box then having a dedicated spot for it is great. Using it for bait might be troublesome with some types of bait. Hand pumping wouldn't be enough for chovies  or herring. The fish box looks awesome. And finally OK gets a bigger tankwell. Looks like a nice sized one.

The video really shows how the pod lid works.  The lid isn't half bad now that a guy can see how it really works.  I'd still be a bit leary of it's water sealing ability, but with the front pivoting hinge, you know it's not going to lift at that end.

I wonder how many times a person rotates the lid in the same direction and eventually twists the Humminbird cables to the point of destruction?

Looks like the rods would have to go in the pod towards the front, vs heading under the seat.  With a dedicated tube for the rods to hide in safely, the front hatch could still be stuffed full and not have to worry about difficulties getting the rods back in there.  Nice!

I'm starting to feel like they stole my rod tube storage idea. when did they come up with that idea I wonder.
