I've been getting a lot of questions about where one could go to test drive a new Trident.  There should be some coming off the line within 2 weeks.  Call your local OK dealer and ask them to get one in for demo.  If they hear it from the customers, they are more likely to order one sooner.  You can find you local OK dealer here ... http://www.oceankayak.com/dealer_locator/index.asp?Group=Ocean+Kayak

Hi All,

I've enjoyed reading all the posts today....just can't seem to keep my mind of work.  I'm totally new to kayak fishing, but have enjoyed both sports separately off and on for years.  A friend of mine recently bought the prowler 15 and is pretty jazed about it.  I have seen one on-line through REI for $679 and was going to get it, until I heard about the Trident.  Worth the wait?  Anyone know when they'll be available and approx price?  On a few reviews of the prowler 15 I've read that it has some leakage problems and may not be the best for a bigger body (around 205 lbs)...thoughts?

I currently live out on the Peninsula (sequim) and plan on fishing locally as well as gearing up for 2-4 day camping/fishing adventures around the San Juans and up into BC.  Hoping to make it to the Tyee tourner labor day!

Thanks for all the info!!

Welcome Fishdog,

Here's the current suggested pricing for the Trident.  It may not be final.  The "Package" is fully rigged with everything you ever needed including a fishfinder.  I don't have a complete list but once I do I'll post it.

•         Pricing
–         Base:                $1,029
–         Base Rudder:     $1,259
–         Angler:              $1,109
–         Angler Rudder    $1,339
–         Package            $2,439

There should be some Tridents available in the next couple of weeks.  Call your local OK dealer and see if he'll have one in or can order on.  The closest to you is Olympic Raft and Kayak I believe.  Ask for Dave.

REI doesn't carry the P15 as far as I know.  If you ever find one for $679, jump on it as that's an extremely good price.

I'm 215# and I paddle a P15.  It works great for me.  I've not heard about any leakage issue, but it is a wet ride.  You can get scupper plugs to help with that though.

Looks like my Trident will be coming in next week while I'm out of town.  It will be delivered to NorthWest Outdoor Center right on Lake Union.  If anyone is interested in demo-ing it there in my absence, let me know and I'll have them give you a call when it comes in.  It will be there until July 27.

Z, I'll let them know.  If no one else speaks up about demo-ing it, perhaps you can even take it with you and take it out fishing on your home waters, provided I can pick it up from you on the 27th (the only day I can get it).  Let me know what you want to do.

Hello neighbors ;)

Got my Trident nearly a month ago and got to test it in the big blue. Here are my thoughts....

Pros:

rod pod - this is what we (NCKA - P15 users) always wanted!
sonar shield - keeps the FF safe from landing on the beach on a big surf day.
The kayak glides just as good as the P15 but it takes a few more paddle strokes to get it going.
The seat is more comfortable and elevated a little bit.

Cons:

Heavy  :(

If I had it my way, I would have kept the P15's  lenght, width and weight and simply add on the rod pod. And perhaps add another notch or two on the footwells (for longer legged people) and copy the new comfy seating of the Trident.

By the way, I opted not to install the rudder - I personally don't like depending on it and did not want that extra weight of it.

...just my 2 cents  ;)

Relatively speaking, it's not that heavy Mooch.  I finally got mine in and gave one a whirl.  I had the same feeling as you do regarding glide and getting it up to speed.  It's also a nice dry ride for me, which is what I really like.  The only con for me is that my calves are a bit squished on the rod pod and the outside of my ankles hit right on a foot well grove.  But I'm sort of knock kneed and pidgin toed, and I have with large calves.  Yes, I have funny legs.

For an average - out of shape joe....like myself....yes, it's heavy. Or perhaps I should just hit the gym more often  :-[

Oh and yeah, I forgot to point out that it is a dry ride. Despite my 250 pound frame, my ass was dry  ;)

At 60 pounds, it's only 4 pounds heavier than a Prowler 15 angler.  It's probably lighter than all other kayaks in its class save the P15.

I gave the Trident a try earlier in the week and here are my comments: (I have a P15)

Many of my pros and cons are directly connected...

Pros:
- Rod Pod:  It is so nice to have this storage space.  It looks like it will also be really nice for storing gear aft for multi-day trips.

- It is dryer, which is nice.  The drainage between foot wells and scupper holes help.

- It seems more stable, bigger in general from the cockpit.

- The front hatch latch system is much easier to use...one vs. two clips.

Cons:
- Even though I have skinny legs I felt a little cramped by the rod pod.  I like to be able to adjust my leg positions, especially on longer paddles.  I particularly like to be able to bring my knees closer together, while leaning forward slightly, when paddling powerfully.

- Like previously said, it takes a bit more to get it up to speed.  (Maybe turning takes more also, I would have to compare more directly.)

General:
- I didn't notice much difference in the weights.  I haven't looked at the weight figures, but the over-head hoist test seemed about equal.  The rod pod is more comfortable on the top of my head than molded plastic.

- The seat is higher and dryer, but I kind of like the lower positions' perspective....more research ;D

I like the Trident a lot.  It is a fantastic vessel.  I also like my P15...maybe at some point I'll have both ;)

Cheers!
-Jesse

Now yer talking! Having an extra yak for you non-yak fishing friends is always good to have around. But also having a yak for certain conditions is awesome. I will always keep my Outback. That thing is like a bass boat and great for small water. Let the fleet grow! :D

Let the fleet grow! :D

Hah!  My fleet is at 4 right now (Big Game, two P15's, and a Trident) and usually hovers around there.  I'm thinking of picking up a P13 as I've developed a slight crush on them lately.  I'd also like to get a SIK and do a little more touring this winter to stay in shape.  Hmmm ... then there are those Stand Up Paddleboards, which I tried for the first time last weekend.  I have a goal to catch a Moutcha Tyee off one next year.

Someone stop the madness ... i need help ...
