I got my stoke on today in a big way!!

The fish gods finally finished there game of skunk CBY for 2010 and rewarded my patience handsomely with a beauty hen, 36.75 inches and 19lbs. 14 oz.

wow, what a fight!! biggest Chinook in a yak ever for me. It made 2 nice runs and 3 short burst at the boat, had to dip the pole half way in the water twice to keep it from catching the fins. What a rush!. It's 2+ hours later and i'm still pumped up with adreneline! Friggin destroyed my pathetic Bi-Mart net*  :blob8:

I was almost done i had trolled up past the launch and figured i would turn around put a hevaier weight on and troll the short distance back to the launch against a pretty swift current. Minutes after i dropped it it got slammed once hard then went slack, i thought it was just a takedown and was reeling in slack thinking why isn't this heavy with the weight and it wen't buzzz!! and line started stripping off, i could tell it was a decent fish and tried to stay calm and let it tire before trying to net* especially after i dipped my net in the water and realized it was very inadauate for this heavy girl..

After 2 good runs and 3 short ones, sweating the whole time and shaking with the rush, sure the line would slack and my prize would swim away to complete her  journey in life. Luckily that trip will include a visit to my BBQ and Smoker cuz i got that son of a gun!!..

By the time i fought the fish and netted and sat there  hoopin and hollerin i had drifted way up river, i couldn't make any headway in the current, had to get real close to the shore and let my adreneline bring me back to the ramp. I'm spent but stoked!!

Used my downrigger for a while but didn't catch the fish while using it, it works awesome!

It was an perfect last hour of a long week of fishless fishing.

* Don't go fishing were real big Salmon roam with a pathetic crappy net, it could cost you dearly, i got lucky today..

*Don't try to net a Salmon(most the time) on the first trip to the side of the boat. It's stressfull letting it run but netting a fresh salmon is asking for it to jump out the net and spit the hooks in your face. I was so excited i almost tried to do it today...

20 pounds was crazy on the yak, Can't wait for a 40 pounder!!

See ya on the water..

Awesome fish!  First of many to come this year for you..  Patience and a "proper" net are musts for landing fall chrome.

From ear to ear...still

Couldn't believe it was only about 20 pounds,  'twas a bullet, long and slender.

I'm gonna need a bigger net!! but not a bigger boat..

Roy: FAB JOB! You certainly earned that fish, and I hope you boat a dozen more this fall.
A friend on iFish swears by an Al's Fish Flash, an FBR with anchovy or sardine and a 5-6-ounce cannonball on a short dropper. It's what I tried a couple of weeks ago in my little lake boat from buoy 26 to 28, with no love, but no one had any action that day.
I know what you mean about the tidal current there above the bridge. I can't imagine fighting it, especially with a breeze, in anything but a Hobie with Mirage plus a paddle. Glad you didn't get stuck and have to wait for the tide to turn.
