My NWKA bookmark takes me to the recent topics page. So today, I clicked on it and went to the recent topics page. No problems. Viewed some posts, and then wondered what would happen if I clicked the home page button on the site. When I did, got a Kernal panic. This happened yesterday when I tried going to the home page using a different browser. I noticed also that whenever I log in, I am taken to the home page. Given this fact, I believe that it's the opening of the home page that crashes my Mac.

Thanks GD.  That gives me a clue where to start looking.  Sometimes bad code still gets processed fine by the newer OS's and browsers.   But older browsers may not have the same error handling code.  This should be (hopefully) easy to fix.  But it may take a few days for me to track down the offending code.

I went through the code and fixed a few things.  Didn't see anything I'd consider deadly.  Still some there that I need to figure out how to fix, but those didn't seem deadly either.

I've disabled the 2-SI chat for the timebeing, just to see if it affects anything.

Can you guys having problems tell me if you see any difference?

Hey P^2

Is "who's online/instant messaging" down or is it just me?

sorry dude, I didn't catch that post, although I probably still wouldn't have known what it meant.

I am still unable to log in to this site. Everytime I try to open the home page, or log in, my MAC crashes. I am using my very old pc now, and it has taken ten minutes to get to this point where I could post. This is not really an option for keeping in touch with the NWKA.

I'm using Safari Version 5.0.4 (5533.20.27) under 10.5.8 and NWKA is in my Top Sites pane.

You might consider downloading and running a maintenance app.  I use Leopard Cache Cleaner and Maintenance.  Make sure you download the correct version for your OS.  Anyway, it fixed my problem a few months ago.

Good luck

Normally I run the G4 using 10.4.11, the most current operating system that I can use. I thought I would try an older os, and since I have 10.2.8 on another hard drive, I restarted using that os. I opened Firefox, and clicked on the bookmark for the NWKA that was set to open on the recent topics page, the earlier one, the one before Allen switched  servers.  I had it set so that I was already logged in.  Instead of recent topics, or home, I got this message. When I logged in again, everything was fine. Go figure! At least I know now that I can access the NWKA if I restart in 10.2.8. Now I can use the Mac, although it's a hassle having to restart the computer for daily browsing.

I figured out what the problem was! It has to do with JAVA script on the home page. When I disabled JAVA and JAVA script in my Safari preferences, I was able to log in without a problem. After a bunch of research, it seems that other MAC OS's are also having problems with kernel panics and JAVA. Now I can post again!

Nicely done.  It would have taken me forever to track down a Javascript problem.
