Interesting goals.  I'm not at all sure it can be done in one year but my list:

1) Harvest a 50 pound plus halibut.
2) Harvest a meal of spot prawns...none of this one or two deal.
3) Battle an Octopus with tentacle span bigger than my kayak. (which at 9'3" should be easy if I get one).  I'm not going to say harvest one....just battle one...going to try three methods...shrimp pot, lair traps, and jigging.
4) Try some ocean night fishing in sheltered bays.

First post...I just received my kayak, a Trident 11, this week and got it out of the shrink wrap. Goals for 2011 would be in this order...

1. learn to paddle
2. learn self-rescue
3. Rig kayak for fishing with innumerable add-ons and gadgets
4. Actually go fishing, hopefully by this summer
5. Catch any salmonid and post picture of self and fish on internet forum

Maybe I should add to find the time for all of the above.

Welcome to the forum C_Run.  You don't need to fully rig your yak before you fish from it.

I spent 6 months in Monmouth-Independence working a 300 acre ranch/farm when I was 19.  It made a man of me and gave me a life-long respect for how hard farmers/ranchers work.

First year on the sound so:
1. Survive- ( "...with a little help from my friends")
2. Catch anything salt water with any level of frequency starting with a Ling tomorrow (fingers crossed)
3. Salmon- any and all.  My favorite fish and the reason I smiled when I got transferred here.  Almost makes up for my father in law being here.
4. Maybe actually go back to doing some freshwater fishing as well if I can get enough trips in this year.
5. To not drop my brand %&!ing new kayak of the top of my car again this year.....
