Just another example of the crazy stuff you can get into while off the coast.   ;)

Now that's a KRAKEN!

Loved the underwater shots, super clear.  What camera?

Yup, it was kept.  It swallowed the hooks pretty good so it probably wouldn't have made it anyways.

Camcorder was a Kodak Playsport.

Sweet!  Do you have video of dealing it with it once on board the kayak?  I am going to try and target them specifically this fall.

Great underwater shots!!!

That thing was YUMMY!!!

The trick is defeating the suction.  Reach thru a burlap sack and grab one of the legs at the shoulder.  They can't hold on to burlap so they can't leverage themselves out of the bag.  Fold the bag around the head and start stuffing legs into the bag (much easier said than done).

I have to wonder if it would have climbed inside a pot hung next to the yak. That would have made landing so much easier!

That is something else. How do you have the playsport rigged up to get it into the water?

I used to have a Xshot to get underwater shots but that thing didn't even last a year.  I threw together a DIY camera extender arm out of the usual DIY material, PVC.  There's a small Gorilla Pod style tripod zip tied to the end of that.  I might throw up a quick rundown of it since it seems to be working out real well so far.

Yeah that'd be great. Even just a photo of the finished product.

Wish I could have been there to see it still alive.  How did you eat it?  Tako poke?

This seems appropriate...

Now that has to be the coolest way to have your 'yak scratched up.  Do you have a bunch of circles on the bottom or was the poly too hard?

Octopus don't have any thing hard in their suction cups like the Humboldt squid do. The only thing that can get you is their huge parrot like beak.
Octopus = cool animal
Humboldt = F-ing creepy animal
