What's this one?

-Allen
Bocaccio?
Silvergray?

Nope.

-Allen
hmmm... Yellowtail rf?

PNW.  I think you put your silvergray guess inline, which made it look like I said "Nope".  It is indeed a Silvergray, and a larger sized model at that.

What's this?  I think I know what it is.  It was caught along with a lot of coppers and a couple blues.  All C&R'd Puget Sound closed to all rockfish retention.

What's this?  I actually don't know, except it was caught along with a lot of coppers and a couple blues.

I know!  But I'll let others chime in instead of spoiling the fun.

I've heard there's some quillback/copper hybrids out there so I'll throw my hat in the ring w/ that.

Definitely a quillback, IMHO, which are described as being in trouble in both north and south Puget Sound according to the PSRMP (Puget Sound Rockfish Management Plan).  I guess they have a hard time recovering when coppers recruit more successfully and nudge them out?  Still wading through that document when time allows.

P.S. - while we're at it, it could be very helpful to identify which of these species are benthic (bottom dwelling) and which are pelagic (open water, often schooling).  If WA rules (hopefully) go the way of Alaska's, then knowing the difference can be important as the different "categories" of species are managed separately.  So, with that intent, I'll list the habitats of the species so far on this list.

China - benthic
Black - pelagic
Copper - benthic
Blue - pelagic
Yelloweye - benthic
Silvergrey - pelagic
Quillback - benthic
